As a Fire Suppression Technician Assistant (laborer with fire extinguisher experience), you will be assisting Fire Alarm and Sprinkler Technicians in the installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of fire alarm and sprinkler systems.

Once properly trained, you will also assist with the installation, inspection, and testing of fire extinguishers and the testing of emergency lighting systems.

Who You Are

Attitude:
The single most important trait of any person is their attitude.

A positive attitude with an ability to stay positive and productive through dynamic (and sometimes frustrating) situations is absolutely necessary and required of all service technician assistants.

Communication:
This is key and an important requirement for a successful technician assistant.

While interacting with office personnel, clients, and other technicians, the ability to communicate effectively is among one of the most basic and important skills a technician assistant can have.

Reporting/paperwork proficiency:

Technician assistants are required to complete inspection paperwork as well as appointment documentation and must be able to provide clear, concise, and timely submissions.

Punctuality:
This is a must for service technician assistants. Being prepared and on time is a requirement for all service technician assistants. Whether preparing for a job or meeting a client, being punctual is a must. Of course, as a technician assistant, many scenarios beyond your control will occur. Communicating changes in schedule or tardiness in lieu of arriving on time is occasionally necessary.

Organizational skills:
These should be inherent in any successful technician assistant.

The ability to maintain focus and productivity in a constantly changing environment is facilitated first and foremost by being organized.

Attention to detail:
Technician assistants must have a clear focus on their jobs.

Nearly all of the work completed at Sterling is directly related to people's safety and as such, the details matter.

Ensuring the details are looked after will help to ensure the larger picture is as well.

Analytical mindset:
This is a technical job and requires a technical mind. Technician assistants should be well-versed and comfortable while working on systems.

Ability to operate a vehicle:
A valid driver's license is necessary as driving around to various locations will be required.

What You'll Do
Technician assistants must be able to perform the following during the course of their employment:

Recharge discharged or partially used extinguishers. Replace damaged or expired components, such as seals, hoses, and valve assemblies.
-
Maintenance and Repairs:Perform maintenance and repairs on fire extinguishers as needed to ensure they are in good working condition. Identify and rectify any defects or malfunctions in extinguishers.

Assist with Installation:Support the installation of fire alarms and sprinkler systems by carrying equipment, tools, and materials to the work site. Assist in the assembly and installation of electrical, panels, pipes, fittings, valves, and other system components.
-
Maintenance and Repairs:Help technicians in inspecting, testing, and maintaining fire alarm and sprinkler systems. Assist in identifying and addressing issues such as faulty wiring, leaks, clogs, or damaged components.
-
Documentation:Maintain accurate records of work performed, including inspection reports, service logs, and equipment inventory. Ensure that all documentation is complete and up-to-date.
-
