Description
An Early Childhood Educator is required to:
- Interact and communicate with the children in an appropriate manner.
- Provide supervision and guidance in various daily activities i.e. field trips, programming.
- Implement programming using the "How Does Learning Happen?" pedagogy.
- Develop and implement a stimulating and safe daily program for the children.
- Be willing and adaptable when presented with changes in curriculum and staffing needs on a daily basis and to the inter-centre professional development program.
- Encourage healthy social interaction among the children by being an appropriate model.
- Emphasize each child's positive behaviour rather than concentrating on problems.
- Deal with behavior guidance consistently with logical consequences but most importantly with caring and patience.
- Inspect on a daily basis the general health of each child arriving at the Centre.
- Be aware and effectively respond to each child's special needs and restrictions.
- Assist the children of a variety of backgrounds in developing a positive self-concept.
- Encourage the development of balance between each child's dependence and independence.
- Assess the level of development of each child.
- Actively participate as part of an educational team.
- Attend meetings as requested.
- Be familiar with and conform to the parent and personnel policies and goals and objectives set out by the Centre and the Child Care and Early Year's Act.
- Be prepared to be able to cope effectively with emergency situations.
PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL QUALITIES
- Initiate and maintain satisfactory communication with the individual parents, to ensure that they are aware of their child's level of development and the events of the child's day.
- Maintain a friendly and professional attitude.
- Maintain the safe orderly arrangement of the Centre, i.e. to maximize child's development.
- Ensure all communication, whether written or verbal, is precise and acceptable, i.e. program plans, accident reports, and evaluations.
- Ensure that any pertinent family information concerning the child is passed on the Director and maintain its confidentiality.
- Ensure proper care and storage of the school's equipment before and after use, i.e. putting toys in containers, putting outdoor equipment away.
- Assist, supervise and guide students, substitute teachers, volunteer trainees and parent helpers.
- Take on extra areas of responsibilities and show a willingness to participate as required in pertinent outside Centre activities.
- Take appropriate opportunities for further professional development.
Salary:
$20.84-$21.82 per hour
Expected hours: 38.75 per week

Ability to commute/relocate:
