Opportunity

MacEwan University is seeking a knowledgeable Supervisor for a full-time continuing opportunity with our kihêw waciston Indigenous Centre.

Reporting to the Director, Indigenous Initiatives, you will develop and deliver on student success and engagement strategies for Indigenous learners at MacEwan University and will be responsible for the efficient and effective operations of the Centre's activities.

The role also supports relationships with external Indigenous organizations and communities, and implements student support services in the Centre, aligned with the University's new strategic vision, Teaching Greatness.


You will be responsible for planning, developing, implementing, assessing, and administering various academic and cultural support services for kihêw waciston.

Working closely through collaboration and communication with faculties and schools, you will ensure that consistent processes and practices are in place to ensure effective student support.

You will also provide guidance, mentorship, and coordination for the team, which includes Indigenous student advisors, coordinators, and Elders/knowledge keepers, and administrative support, with particular attention to Indigenous student success, engagement, and retention.


Other key duties include:

  • Developing employee recruitment and retention strategies;
  • Providing employee orientation and training;
  • Managing staff workloads;
  • Overseeing and coordinating professional development activities for the staff;
  • Monitoring and assessing employee performance, utilizing coaching and mentoring strategies as appropriate;
  • Managing budgets for the Centre;
  • Researching best practices and collaboratively building marketing and recruitment initiatives for indigenous learners;
  • Representing the Centre on various university committees to initiate change and resolve issues related to academic services and curriculum requirements;
  • Supporting the development and delivery of Indigenous student transition, cultural awareness, and community engagement events/activities that support the success of Indigenous learners, and the development of Indigenous cultural competencies across the campus community;
  • Developing and implementing proposals that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of kihêw waciston support services and programs, including peerled programming; and
  • Participating in a variety of key strategic, operational, and projectoriented groups and committees, both internally and externally.
