    Position purpose:

    Reporting to the Supervisor, Student and Campus Support, plans, implements and evaluates initiatives aimed at Faculty of Arts student retention, success and development. Manages Mentoring Centre human and material resources while offering programming that improves the student experience and furthers student success. Plans and performs interventions with students and counsels those in difficulty, to increase success, retention and persistence rates.

    In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Develops and implements strategies that further student retention, success and persistence. Designs and implements strategies and tools to further student success.
  • Working with the Intermediate specialists, Academic Advising, assesses students' situations (including for those at risk), determines problems, meets the persons concerned to establish an action and follow-up plan, and offers advice and supervisory activities to help students succeed. Manages activities related to student interventions (assesses needs, establishes study plans, plans and performs interventions, conducts follow-up and oversees students as needed).
  • Co-ordinates Mentoring Centre activities, including human and material resource allocation, work assignment, implementation of work procedures and website content management, to offer high-quality support to students.
  • Develops and implements a service delivery program (including study groups, workshops, Mentoring Centre promotional activities) designed to facilitate first-year student integration and increase student success.
  • Trains, supervises and offers daily guidance to Faculty student mentors, to offer students high-quality mentoring services. Advises student mentors on their interactions with students as well as on leading workshops and study groups. Offers workshops as required.
  • Assesses cases and, working with the Intermediate specialists, Academic Advising, ensures follow-up on files concerning academic regulations, activity schedules and administrative processes (admissions, program of study changes, enrolment process, convocation, Faculty scholarships and bursaries, academic reset program, etc.).
  • What you will bring:

  • Bachelor's in education or a university degree in a related field
  • Two years' experience in education or as an Academic Advisor, or a combination of both
  • In-depth knowledge of postsecondary education programs, normally acquired through a university degree or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge and experience concerning training and teaching methods
  • Knowledge of university curriculums, academic regulations and adminstrative processes
  • Demonstrated university-level mentoring experience or the equivalent
  • Experience in communicating with a diverse clientele (students, parents, professors, support staff, managers, community members), both orally and in writing, highlighting own consultation, analysis and feedback skills
  • Project management skills: co-ordination, implementation, supervision, and report and review writing
  • Bilingualism — English and French (spoken and written)
  • Flexibility to occasionally take part in early morning, evening or weekend events
