Job Description - Supervisor

The Supervisor reports directly to the Program Coordinator.

The role of the Supervisor is in addition to the role of the Residential Support Worker. The Supervisor is to teach, maintain and implement the philosophy of SPIKE Inc. through positive, supportive, motivating leadership - or creative facilitation.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

LEADERSHIP:

MOTIVATE AND GUIDE THE TEAM BY:

  • Developing a relationship based on respect, honesty and trust with each individual.
  • Showing a strong commitment to the philosophy of SPIKE and following through on that commitment.
  • Acting as a role model.
  • Ensuring SPIKE information is organized and easily accessible to the team.
  • Assisting individual team members to take ownership by suggesting creative solutions.
  • Being accountable, and holding each other accountable.
  • Being a support during stressful times and good times.
  • Mediating when problems arise between team members.
  • Working closely with the Program Coordinator
  • Offering LOTS of praise and appreciation, so team members feel important, because they are this is motivating.
  • Being creative

STAFF RELATIONS:

CREATING A STRONG TEAM BY:

  • Meeting privately with each person regularly to discuss performance, offer praise, discuss concerns, etc.
  • Meet/consult with the Program Coordinator regularly.
  • Ensuring the team is adequately, consistently and completely oriented and trained to the satisfaction of the agency.
  • Keeping clear records for each team member to assist with evaluation and job performance.
  • Assisting with choosing team members that believe in SPIKE philosophy
  • Assisting in evaluations.
  • Offering ongoing training and guidance.
  • Doing scheduling with the team.
  • Ensuring the General Job Description is followed.
  • Being creative

RESIDENTS:
ENSURING THE BEST SUPPORT POSSIBLE IS GIVEN BY:

  • Listening to family, and communicating with them in the way that makes them most comfortable and heard.
  • Clearly documenting important information.
  • Advocating, communicating with involved agencies and community.
  • Ensuring health care is complete e.g. doctor appointments, ordering medication, sharing new information, etc.
POLICY/


PHILOSOPHY:

ENSURING IT IS UNDERSTOOD AND UPHELD BY:

  • Being familiar with policy and procedure so that you can teach others.
  • Ensure staff have read SPIKE policy manual
  • Being familiar with Residential Care Licensing Manual, and ensure staff have read it.
  • Ensuring the Program Coordinator has been notified of any incident reports within 24 working hours, and discussing the incident with the staff person responsible offering support and/or feedback.

ADMINISTRATION:

ENSURING THE HOME RUNS SMOOTHLY BY:

  • Preparing MONTH END, to include (some of these items may have been delegated, which could be gathered together each month end):
  • Financial accounting
  • Personal spending
  • Petty cash
  • Documentation
  • Completed fire drill
  • Medication sheet
  • Ensuring all household and individual documentation is clear and up to date
  • Managing the household by delegating household responsibilities and ensuring the home is well kept
  • Conduct team meetings, supervisor meetings and staff meetings.
  • Attend meetings with external agencies
  • Prepare, research and deliver formal Individual plans, financial plans/reviews, MySupport plans, EIA Annual/monthly reporting and all medical appointments as required.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two years working experience in related field or Post secondary education in a related field.
  • Supervisory experience is a must.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and carry out tasks.
  • Must have ability to communicate effectively, written and verbal (includes interpersonal skills)
  • Understanding of and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Willing to work hours necessary, flexibility to day, evenings, weekends when needed. This includes availability to work a minimum of one weekend per month. On admin days, the supervisor is to be available between the hours of 7am to 11pm, and hours of work on those days will be adjusted as management sees fit.
  • Valid CPR and First Aid Level C
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention
  • Valid Manitoba Driver's License, Class 5F or equivalent
  • Criminal record Check with Vulnerable Sectors Search
  • Child and Adult Abuse Registry checks
  • ASL would be considered an asset
  • Please note that the hourly rate of pay for this position is $21.50. The supervisor shall receive an amount equal to the statutory holiday pay percentage on every hour paid at the employee's regular rate of pay exclusive of hours at the applicable overtime rates. The current rate of statutory holiday pay is 4.65%. This adds $1 to the hourly wage, making the total amount $22.50.
