Position Summary

As an integral member of the Neurophysiology Department, the Overnight Video-EEG Monitoring technician works at Toronto Western Hospital in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit.

Duties

Utilizing knowledge of patient safety and seizure identification to monitor up to 10 patients simultaneously and alert Nursing staff to seizures and active safety events, as per established standards; operating, troubleshooting and ensuring equipment is performing in an effective and efficient manner
Preparing written handoff reports required to document all seizure events for shift change and technologist review
Participating in teaching, training and other educational activities
Performing mínimal patient care responsibilities to facilitate the provision of optimal patient care
Observing and understanding Hospital and departmental policies and procedures
Adhering to Hospital and departmental mission and value statements while maintaining patient confidentiality
Performing crossfunctional responsibilities, as assigned and/or required

Qualifications

At minimum, completion of an undergraduate degree program in Bachelors of Science or recognized equivalent
Polysomnography experience considered for this position.
Must understand/know electrical safety standards.
Familiarity with analyzing EEG recordings.
Willingness to learn visual recognition of seizure activity.
Required to multitask, e.g., flagging seizure activity on one patient whilst still monitoring 9 others.
Strong decisionmaking skills to identify which cases warrant RN or MD intervention.
Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance to UHN standards
Effective organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
Knowledge of applicable legislative, UHN and/or departmental policies
Client service oriented, with the ability to effectively work with diversity and appreciate that people with different opinions, background and characteristics bring richness to the challenge or situation at hand.
Membership with the Canadian Association of Electrodiagnostic Technologist (CAET) an asset.
Membership with the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) and/or other relevant organizations an asset
