Special Education Assistant


POSITION STATUS:
Full-Time - Temporary (9 weeks - Canada Summer Jobs) (Non-Union)


SCHEDULE: 30 hours per week (flexibility required)


REPORTS TO:
Program Associate and Coordinator

The Special Education Assistant is responsible for welcoming new families to the EarlyOn Program-Toronto and assist them with developing relationships with staff and clients, as well as facilitating communication between deaf and hearing families, when needed.


PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Assists with organizing ageappropriate activities for children (both onsite and virtual programs, including assisting with completion of program plans as well as the organization and presentation of story and song time
  • Ensures classrooms are cleaned and set up daily, including sanitizing of toys and equipment
  • Ensures healthy snacks are available for programs
  • Be positive role model for parentchild interactions and guide caregivers on safety, discipline and well being matters

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school graduate, Early Childhood student would be an asset
  • Fluency in American Sign Language
  • Good English skills (reading and writing)
  • Experience working with children and families (esp children with hearing loss)
  • Research skills (locate child appropriate materials and topics)
  • Experience in office administration and good computer skills (including Word, Excel, and social media)
  • Ability to work with community partners
  • French/LSQ an asset
Canada Summer Jobs Requirements

  • Must be within 15 to 30 years of age (as per Canada Summer Jobs requirements)
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada with a valid Social Insurance Number
  • Must be able to commit to full 9 weeks at 30 hours per week
