    The University of Toronto Scarborough, through the department of Retail & Conference Services, provides a wide variety of visitor, conference, meeting, related special event services and summer accommodation to external users, especially during the period May to September. The revenue generation for the various services contributes to the support of the academic mission of the University.

    Your opportunity:

    Under the general direction of the Assistant Director, Conference & Event Services, the incumbent will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Retail & Conference Services team, including conference and special event activities on campus and film productions. The incumbent will supervise staff members responsible for all UTSC conference and special event activities onsite.

    The Manager, Conference and Events will support the day-to-day sales, marketing and operations activities of the Retail & Conference Services team. This individual will assist in the development of financial plans, marketing strategies. and the creation of campus sales documents and communication tools. The incumbent will oversee the booking of campus meetings, event spaces, and catering orders related to all internal meetings.

    The incumbent will be responsible for the setting strategic direction for summer operations including the establishment of a budget that encompasses summer business revenues from key market segments and expenses relating to staffing, facilities, and other aspects of summer operations. The incumbent will also be responsible for establishing an operating plan for summer operations to deliver a high-quality summer accommodations experience by interacting with guests, by responding to escalated guest complaints and issues, and by developing contracts for groups and other short-term stays.

    Your responsibilities will include:

    • Overseeing the delivery of event management services to ensure client needs are being met.
    • Fostering and maintaining a network of external contacts to build awareness and increase business potential.
    • Researching, analyzing and recommending strategies to generate new business, funding and/or partnership opportunities.
    • Directing the activities of a group of staff-appointed employees all performing a similar function.
    • Analyzing sales performance indicators, lead generation and sales activity.
    • Developing content for marketing and/or promotional materials.
    • Planning and administering expenditures for operating budget.

    Essential Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
    • Minimum 5 years' progressively responsible experience in high level special events conference planning and logistics.
    • Demonstrated experience overseeing sales and marketing initiatives.
    • Experience using conference management software.
    • Sound understanding of catering and the cost of menu items.
    • Experience with project management and applying task coordination skills.
    • Ability to manage conflicting priorities and deadlines, while supervising a group of staff members.
    • Demonstrated ability applying financial control and analysis skills to manage operating budgets.
    • Demonstrated ability to provide a consistently high level of service.
    • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
    • Excellent problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion and good judgement.

    USW Pay Band 14 -- $88,290 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $112,911. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
