POSITION OVERVIEW
The City of Maple is looking to hire a key leadership role for our Police Services Department.

Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Manager of Police Services is responsible for the department leadership, strategic planning, managing political and operational requirements, and oversight of the detachment budget.

This position also participates in the RCMP detachment's Senior Management Team ensuring that police support services align to the RCMP requirements.

The Manager of Police Services directly leads a supervisory team and indirectly manages all staff in the Police Services department of approximately 50 positions.

What you will be getting up to:

  • Oversee all operational functions of Police Services including the management of all civilian employees.
  • Participate on the RCMP detachment Senior Management Team ensuring alignment of police support services to meet the RCMP requirements.
  • Solve operational and administrative problems; uses creative thinking to navigate situations; provides advice to senior management on appropriate tactics.
  • Participate in detachment strategic planning and translates the detachment strategic plan into operational business and financial plans to align with City practices; manages the department's operational business and financial plans ensuring objectives are met.
  • Manage projects and assignments of a political and corporate nature; liaises with the Chief Administrative Officer and RCMP OfficerinCharge to brief on sensitive external and internal issues.

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • Considerable knowledge of all operational aspects of policing environments, such as records, custody, exhibits, fleet, detachment administration, crime analysis, victim services, volunteer programming, communications, and police information technology.
  • Advanced skills in people management practices with the ability to create and sustain a respectful and productive work environment that inspires teamwork, creativity, enthusiasm and positive results.
  • You will be a critical bridge between the City and the RCMP Senior Management Team and have strong political acumen and critical thinking skills, with the ability to adapt to political priorities and anticipate emerging issues.
  • Strong problemsolving skills supported by the ability to research, analyze, and interpret complex situations.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE


The knowledge, skills, and experience required for this job are usually obtained through a recognized bachelor's degree, or related discipline, plus seven years of progressively responsible leadership experience in an operational department, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This position requires an enhanced RCMP Security Clearance.
