WORKFORCE RELATIONS COORDINATOR

Full-Time
70 Hours Bi-weekly | Non-Union | Days Shift


The Coordinator, Workforce Relations supports activities integral to the labour relations function at Baycrest, including grievance management, investigations, labour-management meetings and collective bargaining.

Reporting to the Corporate Director, Labour Relations, the Coordinator is responsible for general administration of labour relations matters and will participate in special projects as assigned to ensure efficient and effective labour relations.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provides administrative support pertaining to labour relations matters to the Human Resources team
  • Schedules various labour and employee relations meetings, including the booking of rooms and attendees for investigation meetings, labourmanagement meetings, grievance meetings, and collective bargaining Prepare job postings in accordance with job descriptions and other selection criteria
  • Manages the adherence to administrative obligations under Baycrest's collective agreements, including timelines stipulated in collective agreements and other time sensitive labour relations commitment
  • Inputs and maintains data related to grievances, attendance management, accommodations, discipline, etc. on the HRIS
  • Actively supports the administrative functions of grievances at all stages of the grievance and arbitration process
  • Prepares correspondence with instruction from the Corporate Director, Labour Relations and/or the Human Resources Managers/Business Partners
  • Maintains the employee and labour relations hardcopy and electronic filing systems
  • Identifies areas of improvement, and suggests enhancements to various labour relations processes
  • Provides advice to managers on general interpretation of collective agreements
  • Builds and maintains positive labour relations between Baycrest and its various unions
  • Runs routine and adhoc reports related to labour relations; including seniority reports, grievance reporting, accommodations, union billing, workforce data, return to work reports, etc.
  • Provides backup coverage to others within the Human Resources Department as required

Qualifications include but are not limited to:

  • Degree or diploma in Human Resources or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning and professional development
  • Certified Human Resources Professional ('CHRP') designation would be an asset
  • Two (2) years of previous experience supporting labour relations functions, preferably in a healthcare setting
  • Experience in a unionized work environment, including familiarity with collective agreements
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of software and internet
  • Familiarity with Human Resources systems
  • Strong working knowledge of all applicable legislation, i.e. Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Code, Pay Equity Act, Labour Relations Act, Hospital Labour Disputes Arbitration Act
  • Possesses the necessary finesse and interpersonal skills to ensure effective written and verbal communications at all levels of the organization, as well as external contacts
  • Proven ability to multitask balancing competing priorities and tight deadline
