Monday to Friday (In-Office)

Stern Cohen LLP is seeking a full-time Co-op Student to join the firm's growing Assurance Department for a 4-month placement term.

_ The Training_

Stern Cohen is an approved training office for students entering the CPA profession with the goal of pursuing a career in public accounting.

We provide quality training and peer support to engage the student in full participation on our professional engagements. We also provide practical program support and mentoring in preparation for CPA preparation courses and the CFE.

In addition, Stern Cohen has a formal performance management and coaching program for all levels, where students will receive engagement-specific reviews and interim coaching meetings by colleagues, all which will help the individual to assess their progress constructively, and in a manner which is conducive to self-improvement and professional growth.

_ The Work_
The student will initially participate in informative orientation and training programs.

They will then be scheduled on several accounting and auditing assignments majority outsourcing files and personal income tax returns will also be assigned later in the work term.

The student has an opportunity to work on a variety of clients in diverse, rather than specialized, industry areas. Increased responsibility and challenge can be awarded quickly, based on individual initiative and performance.

Assist with Notice to Reader files
Assist with inputting trial balances and rolling forward working papers
Assist with scanning/forwarding NTR documents for outsourcing
Ensure signed engagement letters on files, go into files, and update financial prior year comparatives so it balances
Assist with inputting trial balances and rolling forward working papers
Prepare T1 returns

Working towards a Commerce or Business Administration degree (Accounting and/or Finance major preferably)
Enrolled in the Coop program at your postsecondary institution
Previous accounting related office experience is an asset
Customer service and/or client service experience is desirable
Experience working with, or exposure to, accounting and tax software such as CaseWare, Profile, and QuickBooks is beneficial
Strong computer literacy including effective working skills of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
