Reporting to the Senior Geologist Supervisor, the Geologist-in-Training is responsible for working with the Engineering, Operations and Processing teams to effectively recover and blend coal released during the mining process.

The schedule for this role will be 4x4 rotation with 12-hour shifts and will be located approximately 75% in the field and 25% in the office.

The position is a rotational role with potential for future opportunities within the Engineering and Geology group at Greenhills Operations.

Responsibilities:


  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Work and collaborate with Mine Operations to release planned coal seams while minimizing coal loss
  • Carry out pit sampling campaigns for quality parameters and oxide coal
  • Provide coal packages for Mine Operations including seam locations, mining priorities, seam cleaning notes, and stockpile management
  • Create coal blends for maximum plant productivity and inspec clean coal products
  • Work collaboratively with Mine Operations and Processing; troubleshoot any coal feed or processing issues and provide effective solutions
  • Carry out geophysical logging of production drill holes using a gamma tool

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in Geology or Geological Engineering
  • Registered as a GIT or PGeo, or eligible to register, with Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia
  • Previous work experience in a mining environment, with experience in open pit, truck, and shovel operations an asset
  • Advanced computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
