Position Summary


As part of the Leadership Team at Victoria Manor, this position is responsible for the shared development and implementation of the organization's goals, directives and procedures in order to ensure the effective and efficient operation of the home, and to achieve and maintain a level of high-quality resident care.

Key responsibilities of the position include management of the fast-paced day-to-day operation of the home's dietary department, which involves the management of food service employees including the nutritional care of the residents of the facility and the supervision of staff.

This includes nutrition consulting, meal planning, inventory control, budgeting and purchasing.

The Manager coordinates dietary activities with other departments in the facility and ensures dietary department and food service adherence with provincial legislations, regulations and standards.


Essential Duties

Specific for this role:


Plan, direct, and coordinate food service activities to meet the nutritional needs of the residents in accordance with budgets and legislative parameters.

Develop, with the Dietitian and with input from residents, an organized program of nutrition and hydration services to meet resident needs and provide safe, acceptable, nutritious meals.


As a member of the leadership team:

Develop and administer procedures and allocate resources to achieve effective and efficient operation of the home, and to achieve and maintain a level of high-quality resident care.


  • Develop strategy goals, directives, standards, and procedures in area of responsibility in order to measure and deliver the defined goals and priorities.
  • Demonstrate leadership for the performance management of team members, including individual performance improvement and supports for coaching and developing staff in a cohesive team environment.
  • Research, quantify, facilitate and coordinate delivery of training needs to staff.
  • Responsible for the hiring, onboarding and management of staff in a unionized environment in consultation with People Services.
  • Administer the terms of the applicable Collective Agreements, in collaboration with People Services; act as a supervisor under the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA).
  • Estimate budget requirements, making recommendations to inform current and future expenditures.
  • Procure services and goods related to areas of responsibility.
  • Liaise and manage needs of various stakeholders, including residents, families, team members, and vendors in a professional, collaborative and appropriate manner.
  • Administer public relations activities on behalf of the department, identifying and communicating with all necessary audiences.
  • Prepare comprehensive statistical reports to support department reporting requirements and decisionmaking based on performance targets, indicators and outcomes.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Postsecondary diploma in Food Service and Nutrition Management or equivalent.
  • Five years of related progressive experience in dietary services, preferable in a longterm care setting.
  • Current membership in the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management.
  • Two years of previous supervisory experience.
  • Safe Food Handling Certification as per O.Reg 493/17 of the Food Premises Act.
