Position:
Part-Time Permanent - 30 hours per week


SUMMARY OF POSITION:


Reporting to the Recreation Manager and/or designate, taking clinical direction from the Occupational Therapist and/or Physiotherapist, assists in established rehabilitative activities and physical therapy programs to enhance mobility, build strength, increase range of motion, improve balance, perceptual and sensory awareness and maximize achievement in activities of daily living.

Performs duties and ensures safety for residents and staff. Participates in continuous quality improvement activities for the services provided.


REPONSIBILITIES:

Includes but not limited to;

  • Assists residents with established rehabilitative activities such as mobility, strengthening, balance and range of motion exercises, walking programs and activities of daily living as directed.
  • Demonstrates to residents and assists in the use of exercise equipment such as pulley system, parallel bars, passive trainers and other therapeutic aids/equipment.
  • Reports observations of residents' progress and responses to treatment to physiotherapist. Communicates concerns and changes of condition.
  • Porters residents to and from the fitness center using mechanical aids such as wheelchairs and walkers.
  • Sets up and organizes equipment and supplies for related activities as directed; cleans, labels and maintains equipment.
  • Maintains an inventory of equipment and supplies.
  • Attends and participates in care conferences and inservice education as requested.
  • Participates in Quality Improvement Activities
  • Compliance with all Acts, Regulations, policies and protocols relevant to the position.
  • Performs other related duties as required/assigned to meet operational needs of the organization.

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Diploma/Certificate/Courses in Rehabilitation
  • Current certificates in First Aid
  • Two Years' recent related experience, preferably in a long term care setting
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • All successful applicants must pass the vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check applicable to Provincial guidelines.
