Your Opportunity:


Reporting to the Health Information Management (HIM) Supervisor, the HIM Working Leader will be the Lead Point of Contact for Patient Registration-Switchboard and Health Information - Records Management staff (role coverage will be as per operational needs).

The Working leader will provide education and support to staff, assist with schedules and problem-solve system and process issues. The Working Leader with support from the supervisor will represent HIM on committees and groups as required.

Acts as the single point of contact for patient registration - switchboard and Health Information - Records Management (HIRM) - streamlines issues, identifies those that require supervisory input, works with internal and external stakeholders, staff, and other clients seeking information and support from HIM.

Provides leadership for staff including training, education, planning and organizing workload, schedules, and reviewing completed work to ensure complete and accurate work and provides follow up training and support to staff as needed.

Promotes an environment that fosters quality improvement and a culture of safety. Escalates issues to management as appropriate. Ensures coverage of open shifts. Float duties to include relief coverage in HIM departments when necessary. Provides input in the development of applicable HIM policies and procedures. Where needed, enters employee's hours and adjustment for time entry and handles payroll enquires and resolves discrepancies. Creates schedules in accordance with master rotations. Reviews vacation requests for coverage and offers suggestion to supervisor for coverage.

Provides direction and support to staff, will monitor and assign work as necessary, and will re-assign roles and responsibilities based on experience and expertise of staff.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of post-secondary education (e.g. course(s) in business administration, medical office assistant), or other related fields.


Additional Required Qualifications:

Completion of Medical Terminology course required - testing will be performed.

Experience in Patient Registration, Switchboard and Health Information - Records Management required with the ability to demonstrate attention to detail.

Experience working with computers and computer programs required, i.e., Meditech or other Health Care Information System. Accurate keyboarding skills. Minimum typing speed of 45 wpm - testing will be performed. Demonstrated good interpersonal skills with the ability to work with others and to give and receive directions.

Well organized individual who can work independently with little direction to coordinate the procedures, processes, deadlines and diverse knowledge base necessary to meet the needs of patients, care providers and staff.

Exceptional positive interpersonal communications and the ability to work effectively with members of a multi-disciplinary medical team required. Ability to work with mínimal supervision, prioritize, problem solve and handle frequent interruptions required. Ability to adapt to a change and fast paced environment and meet workload deadlines required.


Preferred Qualifications:

Staffing experience an asset. Leadership experience preferred.
