Genomic Research scientist (N-2301):


Main Functions:


  • Oversee experimental plans and technical roadmaps for the characterization of probiotics (current LHS pipeline and nextgeneration probiotics);
  • Generate genomic, transcriptomic, metabolomic and metagenomic information on LHS probiotics for preclinical and clinical research by using internal and external platforms;
  • Perform genomic annotations using whole Genome Sequencing. Ensure these data are up to date according to the latest technologies;
  • Interact within the R&D teams as well as the different departments of the business unit;
  • Maintain accurate complete and uptodate notes on experimental details and results using electronic laboratory notebooks and a data management system (LIMS);
  • Help and provide expertise for the preparation of data for publications and/or internal and external presentations;
  • Write technical reports of the projects within the given deadlines;
  • Contribute to develop collaborations within the Canadian scientific community and, if necessary, internationally (universities and other research partners);
  • Comply with the safety standards and procedures in the laboratories;
  • Assist in general laboratory maintenance;
  • Participate in all other related tasks.

Technical skills:

Required

  • Holds a master's degree in life sciences or molecular biology or related field
  • Technical knowledge in microbiology and molecular biology such as: bacterial cultures, flow cytometry, PCR, qPCR, nucleic acid purification and sequencing
  • Experience in high throughput sequencing (next generation sequencing) and in silico gene screening (BLAST research method), and in de novo genome assembly techniques and annotation tools (e.g. RAST, BV BRC, Busco gene scan)
  • Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)
An asset

  • Work experience in a level 2 containment laboratory

Personal abilities:

Required

  • Strong interpersonal skills are required to work within a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in French and English, in order to be able to present and discuss results internally and externally (congresses, publications)
  • Excellent problemsolving and decisionmaking skills
