Qualifications:


  • Current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario required
  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing required
  • Master's degree required (must obtain within 5 years)
  • Current certification in Cardiac Care required
  • Current ACLS certification required
  • CNA Certification preferred
  • Emergency certifications (i.e. TNCC, PALS) required

Skill, Ability and Experience:


  • 35 years experience in emergency nursing required
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships required
  • Ability to plan, organize, and set priorities and deliver education programs accordingly required
  • Superior interpersonal, coaching, and leadership skills to facilitate identification and development of staff learning needs required
  • Proven analytical thinking and problem solving skills required
  • Advanced computer skills (i.e. MS Office Applications) required
  • Demonstrated clinical expertise and skills related to medical/surgical nursing required
  • Commitment to promote professional practice and excellence in evidencebased, patient and family centred care required
  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective clinical practice leadership and facilitate practice related change required
  • Effective program planning, evaluation skills and knowledge transfer required
  • Recent experience in Nursing Education/Instruction required
  • Knowledge of LEAN implementation and process improvement preferred
  • Proven ability to achieve outcomes through programs delivered to individuals and groups preferred

Principal Duties:


  • Responsible for Clinical Practice in the day to day clinical operations, recruits, interviews, hires and orientates new staff
  • Identifies, plans, implements, and evaluates staff education programs inclusive of orientation of new team members to the program
  • Monitors performance and counsels team members in achieving the disciplines' standards of practice and manages performance reviews and disciplinary action in collaboration with Manager
  • Provides mentoring, coaching and clinical leadership to Charge Nurses/ULs and program team members for all functions and activities relating to practice, and participate in relevant research initiatives
  • Supports the day to day utilization of human and material resources to achieve the program's goals and function
  • Develop and implement nursing education including orientation, professional/ skill development and continuing nursing education
  • Serve as a clinical resource for nurses both within the clinical practice settings identified as above but also on a consultation basis to others within the Hospital
  • Identify and lead the implementation of leading practices within the clinical setting, develop learning plans with staff and ensure compliance
  • Addresses and seeks to resolve patient and/or family complaints
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate orientation and educational programs based on identified learning needs
  • Review incident reports and patient care complaints with the Manager as required to identify and implement improvement strategies
