Description

The Waegwoltic Club is looking for a full time seasonal Aquatics Coordinator to manage, coordinate and supervise all aspects of the aquatics programming, facilities, and staff and to provide support to our programming office team in delivering aquatics specific club initiatives as well as Club wide events.


Reports to
1) The Head of Aquatics will directly report to the Program Manager and CEO

2) Additionally, the Head of Aquatics will also be accountable to Pool Operators and Facilities Managers as well as the Aquatics Committee and Director of Aquatics.


Working Environment
This is a full-time seasonal Position

May 7th - October 31st
40+ hours a week including weekdays, weekends, evenings and holidays

Expected Summer Wage:
$17 - $20 depending on experience


Roles & Responsibilities
As a member of the aquatic leadership team, responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

_Leadership _
1) Collaborates regularly with Program Manager to ensure a consistent approach to overall leadership of the team; is an effective team player

2)

Supervises aquatic staff including, but not limited to:
performing evaluations and staff development training; coaching and mentorship to lifeguards; feedback and course corrects

3) Required to attend and participate in regular scheduled in-service training sessions and meetings throughout the year

4) Ensure the professionalism of aquatic staff; lead by example, are appropriately dressed in uniform, pleasant to members, prepared and on time for their shifts.

5) May be required to instructor swimming lessons, lifeguard or act as an out of rotation supervisor

6) Manager Employee files and process payroll

7) Confirm certifications & background checks and maintain accurate employee records

8) Coordinate and assign private lessons as require

9) Develop staff scheduling and perform administrative duties as necessary. Adjust staff work schedules and assignment of extra tasks

10) Communicate effectively with the Program Manager and makes recommendations for improvements or changes


_Operations _
1) Responsible for the opening and closing of the aquatic department and oversee the daily operations of the pools, delegating tasks to supervisors when necessary

2) Make day-to-day decisions regarding patron safety and ensure lifeguard to bather ratios are adequate; adjust schedule & rotations accordingly, delegating tasks to supervisors when necessary

3) Assist with maintaining sufficient inventory of first aid supplies, uniforms, and swim lesson supplies

4)

Approve completed reports:
shift, incidents and accidents. Communicate these reports according to Club policy

5) Report mechanical failures, accidents, and other relative information to the Program Manager and COO.

6) Compile necessary facility statistics.

7) Work collaboratively with club staff to manage all equipment required to maintain the overall operations of the department


_Health and Safety _
1) Ensures compliance with Health and Safety legislation

2) Provides new employees with safety orientation as required

3) Attend Weekly Health and Safety Meetings

4) Act as a person in charge of emergency procedures and action plan for staff

5) Monitor activities of the swimming pools by providing the highest standard of lifeguarding with an emphasis on the prevention of accidents and injuries


_Patron Experience_
1) Perform lifeguarding which involves observing and safeguarding activities in the pool and surrounding areas

2) Provide instructional work that involves giving instruction in water safety, lifesaving, swimming techniques and all levels of the Red Cross and other swim programs

3) Responsible for trouble shooting and handling customer concerns

4) Responsible for educating the public regarding the policies and procedures related to bather safety

5) Maintains order and ensures proper conduct of persons using the facility

6) Provides excellent customer service to all internal and external customers

7) Assists with customer service, program registration and answering telephones when necessary

8) Reacts to emergency situations and performs first aid when required

9) Performs other related duties and responsibilities of the Head Lifeguard role as required


_Required Qualifications & Certifications_
1) National Lifeguard (NL) - previously NLS

2) AEC (Aquatic Emergency Care) or SFA (Standard First Aid) with CPR C/AED

3) Satisfactory Criminal Record

5) Knowledge and experience building relationships with patrons and dealing with behavior management both with children and parents/adults

6) Strong verbal and written communication skills

7) Independent decision-making, problem solving and analytical skills

8) Minimum 2 years lifeguarding experience and 1 year in a supervisor capacity

9) Knowledge of the methods, tools, and equipment used in lifeguarding.
