Job Summary:

Your role:


  • Operate assigned equipment and perform duties in the development, maintenance and operation of the Operations Department related to storm drainage and roads winter control and other duties as assigned.
  • Operate a Vac All unit in a safe, efficient and courteous manner
  • Perform other duties related to storm water drainage as required such as but not limited to inspection, maintenance and repair of the following infrastructure: storm water management ponds, stormsceptor filtration units, storm sewer inlets and outlets, catchbasins and manholes, erosion control measures, roadside ditches and roadway culverts.
  • Perform various duties relating to winter control of roadways including but not limited to operating a tandem truck with plow and wing and other relevant machinery, manual snow and ice clearing and manual salting and sanding.
  • Remove obstacles hazardous to employees or the public or that interfere with the safe operation of vehicles or equipment within the Public Right of Way.
  • Comply with all applicable regulations and requirements of the Occupational Health & Safety Act, all Federal, Provincial and City regulations, policies and procedures
  • Accurately complete daily activity inspection sheets, activity logs and time sheets.
  • Report on variances to daily work plans
  • Actively participate in a team environment.
  • Immediately report vandalism, mechanical difficulties and damage.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:


  • Minimum Grade 12 education is required
  • Proven experience, knowledge and understanding of drainage maintenance activities and the use of tools and equipment relevant to drainage maintenance activities
  • Previous Vac All experience would be an asset
  • Must be a reliable selfstarter, able to make decisions and function with minimum supervision.
  • Must possess good oral and written communication skills
  • Have the ability to deal with the public in a cordial manner and work well in a team environment
  • Ability to perform a variety of physical activities including but not limited to lifting, digging and shoveling, ladder climbing and the ability to actively participate in daily maintenance activities, working within live traffic conditions and adverse weather conditions
  • Proven basic understanding of and experience with computers as it relates to this position.
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act

Rate:

CUPE 241 Grade: 2 (Vac All Operator) $27.33 per hour

Cupe 241 Grade: 3 (Winter Control) $28.85 per hour
