ORGANIZATION:

The BC-CfE is a world-renowned HIV/AIDS Centre with innovative, low barrier approach to healthcare delivery in clinical practice and an integrated group of research concentrations in Laboratory Sciences, Clinical Trials, Population Health and Epidemiology, Health Economics and Professional Education Programs.

A multidisciplinary team of clinicians including Physicians, Nurses, Social Workers and Peers and researchers including Health Economists, Epidemiologists, Clinical Researchers, Statisticians, Programmers, and Data Analysts work collaboratively to improve the health of British Columbians with HIV and communities facing socio-economic barriers in accessing healthcare.


JOB SUMMARY:

The Research Assistant works with the research team on the planning, implementation, analysis, and knowledge translation of various hepatitis C (HCV) and primary health care studies.

Main duties include recruitment/outreach activities, obtaining informed consent and study enrolment, sample, and data collection; scheduling & conducting study visit and follow-up as necessary.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supports recruitment for studies, screening and enrolment
  • Supports the collection of data through surveys and interviews
  • Collects backup source documentation as required.
  • Develops, updates, and maintains study databases and source document worksheets.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality related to identification and release of study data.
  • Conducts literature reviews and assists in the development of research projects and associated documents.
  • Performs other duties as required.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training, and Experience

University degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. Health Sciences, Public Health, Public Policy), and 1 to 3 years previous research experience working in the healthcare field. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

Skills and Abilities

  • Experience working with and/or clear understanding of the Downtown East Side neighbourhood, the population and the clients we serve
  • Exceptional attention to detail and excellent organization skills
  • Ability to take initiative and problemsolve
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently with mínimal supervision
  • Experience conducting literature reviews and synthesis
  • Knowledge of health research design and protocol development.
  • Experience interacting with underserved patients or clients
  • Clear ability to establish rapport with clients, communicate clearly, be a good listener, and have the ability to assess a situation and respond accordingly
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of HIV, HCV, and social determinants of health is an asset
