The Behaviour Services Consultant - ECS is responsible for enhancing the knowledge and skill set of Special Needs Resource (SNR) staff within the Every Child Belongs model, who may request the development of a more formalized behaviour program.

Provides expertise in behaviour support strategies to Special Needs Resources (SNRs) and community Early Childhood Educators (ECEs) and guides their work with young children exhibiting behavioural issues.


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Psychology or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in the development of Behaviour management programs with a wide range of children's needs within early learning settings (birth to 12 years).
  • Ability to monitor the safety and wellbeing of clients, self, and others.
  • Ability to monitor and evaluate programs and adjusting programs as required (e.g., child has achieved established goals so goals may need to be refined to better support the child and professionals).
  • Ability to work as a team member with a number of Special Needs Consultants from other agencies and Early Childhood Educators and Supervisors from many childcare centres.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program Operations

  • Supports programming to address and support the successful inclusion of children from birth to 12 years of age with complex developmental, social, emotional and behavioural needs.
  • Follows a mediator model of service whereby the SNR acts as the primary mediator to the early learning setting.
  • Supports the SNR through confirmation of general strategies and the use of coaching, modelling, and feedback.
Program Development and Training

  • Assesses, develops, and writes programs for referred children, including formal report writing and documentation.
  • Designs training programs such as crisis management for staff in child care centres.
  • Provides consulting, modeling, and monitoring of programs for children.
Community Partnerships and Outreach

  • Promotes public awareness of Behaviour Consultation Services through speaking engagements in the community, at annual conferences, and through implementing joint training projects with other agencies.
  • Works collaboratively with team members in various early childhood settings, including licensed childcare programs and home childcare providers.
  • Attends and participates in Every Child Belongs meetings and staff meetings.
