OB OVERVIEW:


We are looking for a volunteer mentor who lives in
Toronto and GTA who is a
music producer to mentor a young person interested in exploring this field.

Our Mentor Program matches youth with adult role models who provide positive life and career advice or just a listening ear.

The program helps our young people establish valuable relationships and improve their decision-making skills.

The time commitment to participate is one year and in that one year, we expect the mentor and mentee to check in once a week via text or phone call and meet in the community twice a month.

DUTIES:

  • To attend all training meetings and needed support meetings online
  • To meet with the program supervisor for followup and/or problem solving
  • To have a clear understanding of Covenant House Philosophy and 5 Principles
  • To act as a friend, companion, advisor and role model rather than an authority figure
  • To provide support and motivation to youth
  • To listen without judging
  • To encourage and facilitate youth in learning how to make decisions and take responsibility
  • To be willing to share experiences and ideas with youth
II. QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS

  • Free of a criminal record of physical or sexual violence
  • A sincere interest in youth
  • Flexible schedule to spend time with your mentee
  • Stable personal and professional life
  • Be openminded
  • Good listening and communication skills
  • Patience
  • Adherence to the principles, mission and philosophy of Covenant House
  • Previous volunteer experience as a mentor is an asset
  • Nonjudgmental, "helping" attitude
  • Ability to motivate youth
