    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

    Under general supervision, this position performs a variety of reception and clerical duties such as operating telephone and paging systems, receiving visitors, providing routine information, typing and filing. May also accept calls from nursing staff regarding absence and call in relief staff according to pre-determined guidelines.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operates switchboard and receives and transfers incoming calls; pages staff or other parties as required or transmits messages; pages general announcements as requested.
  • Responds to enquiries, receives visitors and directs to appropriate areas. Provides standard information on facility and residents in accordance with facility policies.
  • Types a variety of documents including, memoranda, reports, articles as requested ensuring accuracy and completeness of documents.
  • Prepares donor acknowledgement cards as requested by Foundation.
  • Sorts, records and distributes incoming mail and processes outgoing mail.
  • Initiates established communication procedures in the event of fire or other emergencies, using paging and walkie-talkie systems as defined in established guidelines.
  • Records resident admissions, transfers and discharges on designated forms and distributes information as per established guidelines.
  • Provides tickets such as guest meal tickets, High-Holiday tickets, HandiDart tickets when requested; receives payment according to pre-determined ticket cost.
  • Coordinates bookings of meeting rooms as requested.
  • Contacts staff, residents' families and non-staff regarding scheduled meetings or other matters as required.
  • Accepts calls from nursing staff regarding illness and absence from work; communicates information to In-Charge Nurse; and calls in relief staff according to instruction and pre-determined guidelines. Refers problems to In-Charge Nurse.
  • Delivers mail, flowers, meal trays or other items to residents as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • QUALIFICATIONS

  • Grade 12.
  • Medical Office Assistant certificate.
  • Two (2) years of recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to type at 45 w.p.m.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing

  • Hourly Wage: $27.56
