Description:

• To provide support for the Vertica database technology and its deployment and usage standards.
• To lead application development and support teams in optimal use of Vertica database technology through creation and communication of standards and walkthrough of critical application components.
• Ensure that databases are optimally designed, so applications meet defined SLA's, maximize reuse of existing database structures, and minimize operational costs.
• To ensure all database and environmental changes undergo appropriate testing and implementation to prevent any impact on RBC systems and clients.

Primary Responsibilities:

1. Maintenance Services

• Create and maintain Vertica database and processing environments for application testing, pre-production verification, and production operation.
• Provide technical support for database processing, data access, performance tuning, and database recovery.
• Perform analyses to resolve complex technical issues/problems.

2. Design Services

• Provide expert advice on the technical design of applications.
• Ensure optimal software facilities and features usage; explain critical components.
• Collaborate with senior staff on data placement decisions, software strategies, and business-specific objectives within RBC technology strategies.
• Convert logical data models into physical database structures using standard processes. Offer data modeling assistance when needed.
• Take part in architecture reviews for development projects, ensuring compliance with standards and policies, and escalating non-conformities.
• Act as the technical lead on short-duration projects.

3. Infrastructure Services

• Research, analyze and propose software/utility usage recommendations.
• Evaluate software upgrades and environmental changes impact with senior staff. Communicate, coordinate, and apply application modifications as necessary.
• Contribute to the development and assessment of standards, guidelines, and processes.
• Promote productivity, quality, and efficiency through tools and procedures.
