Clinical Dietician, Nutrition and Rehabilitation

The Clinical Dietician performs clinical, education, community development and research activities in keeping with the evidence-based practice of Oncology Nutrition.

The Clinical Dietician provides medical nutrition therapy in collaboration with cancer patients, their families and the interdisciplinary team; participates in initiatives that promote the advancement of oncology nutrition education and participates in the development and implementation of quality improvement/nutrition research projects.


What you'll do

  • Using the Nutrition Care Process framework, carry out comprehensive nutrition assessments, identify appropriate nutrition diagnoses, develop and implement patientcentred nutrition intervention and monitor and evaluate nutrition care plans.
  • Utilize and incorporate clinical tools, such as screening and assessment tools, according to program standards.
  • Implement and review therapeutic diet orders. Design, compound, dispense and monitor therapeutic diets where nutrition is administered through enteral or parenteral means. Instruct patients on how to administer enteral feeds. Provide guidance to Diet Technicians as required.
  • Document care plans and reassessment in patient's medical record to meet program standards.
  • Collaborate with other members of the health care team on matters relating to the nutritional care of patients.

What you bring

  • Bachelor of Science in Foods and Nutrition, or equivalent, from an approved University and an accredited dietetic internship.
  • One (1) year of experience in clinical dietetics, with oncology experience preferred or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience acceptable to BC Cancer.
  • Registrant in the College of Dietitians of BC.
  • Preferably Restricted Activities A, C

You are able to:

  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with all levels of staff and the public.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships in an interprofessional team with centre staff, patients, and the public and external health professionals.
  • Physically carry out the duties of the position.
  • Perform CPR techniques.
