    Position Overview
  • NVDPL is looking for a regular fulltime, Library Assistant 2 (Accessible Services), to

deliver library services to print-disabled patrons. The Accessible Services Assistant oversees the Collection of accessible library material (mainly audiobooks in a variety of formats and platforms); selects library material for patrons; and arranges for loan and training on accessible devices such as DAISY readers, and platforms such as NNELS (National Network for Equitable Library Service).

At NVDPL, we believe in building community and relationships, nurturing innovation while honouring tradition, embracing exploration, creativity, and fun, and supporting human potential and enabling excellence.- Reporting to the Manager, Community Connections, you will work with the Accessible Services Librarian to bring library services to patrons who are visually or otherwise print-disabled, many of whom are homebound or living in a care facility.

Listening to audiobooks enhances their quality of life, and is and sometimes the sole pleasurable activity they enjoy.

What you'll be doing

  • Increase capacity of service by registering more print disabled patrons
  • Manage patrons records and accounts
  • Arrange for delivery or pickup of checked out library material
  • Search out requested titles and formats through Interlibrary loan and NNELS
  • Assist patrons in navigating the use of digital devices and digital platforms
  • Perform basic troubleshooting on devices
  • Maintain inventory of equipment including tracking of loans, loss, damage and replacement
  • Provide clerical support for Accessible Services Librarian
  • Make recommendations for purchase of new titles based on patron interests and requests

What you'll need to succeed

  • Completion of Grade 1
  • Valid BC driver's license
  • An understanding and commitment to the principles of inclusiveness and service excellence
  • Experience with and a desire to work with frail seniors and print disabled individuals
  • Basic knowledge and experience with library systems and other current library technologies
  • Demonstrated competence in teamwork, communication, organization and time management

It's great if you have

  • Library Technician diploma would be an asset
  • Demonstrated competence with assisting users navigating the digital environment
  • Empathetic, patient approach to interacting with patrons and setting professional boundaries


The hourly pay rate for this unionized position starts at $25.35 based on a 35-hour workweek, plus a generous benefits package.

This work requires flexible availability, and may include evening and weekend shifts.
