What qualifications are we looking for?

  • Postsecondary education in Social Sciences, Human Services, Education, Social Work or Humanities;
  • Experience and/or desire to work with newcomer youth;
  • Experience in leading and running groups, particularly around topics such as leadership, philanthropy and jobsearching skills;
  • Initiative and a strong work ethic;
  • Strong teamwork skills as well as the ability to work independently and with low supervision;
  • Criticalthinking skills;
  • Administrative experience and knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel;
  • Reliable transportation (mileage is reimbursed);
  • Current Intermediate (Standard) First Aid and CPR C certification (CPR recertified within the last 12 months);
  • Evidence of a clear Police Information Check including a Vulnerable Sector Search;
  • Three professional references required.
What does this role look like at YMCA Calgary?


Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Work parttime, yearround, in two dynamic programs (YMAP) offering support and positive experiences for high school;
  • Independently deliver afterschool sessions inperson five days each week from September to June for youth with a wide variety of English levels, with some weekends as needed;
  • Run or support summer programming for youth during July and August;
  • Adapt curriculum into daily lesson plans to meet student needs;
  • Deliver topics including: selfesteem, healthy relationships, philanthropy, using Calgary transit, resume writing, global initiatives, and cultural awareness;
  • Work within a team of YMAP Coordinators;
  • Help organize special events for youth;
  • Recruit participants through inschool presentations and oneonone interviews;
  • Prepare and submit monthly reports, attendance, and program impact stories;
  • Support program evaluation;
  • Provide dropin and referrals for participants when needed;
  • Build and maintain relationships with schools and community organizations;
  • Be an ambassador for YMCA programs in the community;
  • Ensure a clean and safe work environment;
