    As an Analytical Scientist at McCain, you will play a crucial role in advancing our research and development initiatives. You will be responsible for statistical sampling, analytical testing, and data analyses to support both R&D and Manufacturing projects. Employing scientific problem-solving and rapid prototyping, you'll accelerate research projects and contribute to the development of innovative measurement technologies.

    Your responsibilities extend to identifying measurement gaps within McCain's R&D, Operations, and Agronomy functions. You will continue to improve the technology roadmap to address these gaps systematically and sustainably. Under this roadmap, you will create and validate new or improved test methods, ensuring seamless knowledge transfer to internal users. Your expertise will be shared through reports, presentations, and various media channels.

    Additionally, you will play a key role in liaising with external laboratories for highly complex, advanced, or specific technologies that are not available in-house, ensuring we access the most cutting-edge capabilities in our field.

    This role will be based in Florenceville, NB, Canada.

    Key Accountabilities

  • Operates, qualifies, calibrates and maintains core and advanced analytical equipment.
  • Leads the research, development, adaptation, optimization and validation of analytical test methods.
  • Plans, designs, and executes research following sound experimentation protocols. Performs standard and advanced analytical and sensory tests and documents data. Statistically analyzes the data and reports the results in scientific format.
  • Authors and reviews new analytical test methods, procedures, validation protocols, reports, and research papers.
  • Supports the effective transfer of new and improved analytical test methods to other facilities in R&D and Manufacturing. This includes the set-up of new instruments, end-user training and troubleshooting support.
  • Acts as a liaison with external laboratories to conduct research and identify appropriate testing requirements. Interprets results from highly complex, advanced or specific technologies and methods.
  • Provides technical knowledge and expertise to other McCain functional units. This includes instructions and support on sample collection procedures, design of experiments, instrument maintenance and documentation.
  • Supports the development of a structured R&D test database and analytics tools to drive actionable insights.
  • Qualifications

  • Master's or Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Food Science or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years (1 year with Master's degree) in a laboratory or research setting across a range of analytical techniques, such as GC-MS, HPLC, NIR spectrometry.
  • Expertise in analytical method development and validation, including creation of user information package.
  • Proficiency in report, thesis, and technical writing.
  • Independent research experience, with a focus on problem-solving and overcoming obstacles.
  • Working knowledge of applied statistical analysis, including Design of Experiment (DoE) and multivariate analysis would be considered a strong asset.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical subjects to non-technical audiences.
  • Ability of dealing with ambiguity, comfortable navigating change and uncertainty, taking initiative and making informed decisions without a complete picture.
  • Customer-focus mindset, dedicated to understanding customers' needs and meeting their expectations.
  • Self-starter, able to adapt easily in a rapidly changing business environment.
