This position is located in Mississauga, Ontario.
CanmetMATERIALS is a materials research laboratory with offices in Hamilton and Mississauga Ontario that provides world-class R&D in partnership with universities and industry.
It supports innovation in advanced materials, manufacturing and clean energy.Intent of the process:
The intent of this process is to staff one 2-year determinate position located in Mississauga, Ontario.

Education
Graduation with an acceptable doctoral degree from a recognized postsecondary institution in a field of natural science or engineering related to the duties of the position, such as Materials Science or Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Physics, coupled with acceptable research, training and experience.
Productivity/Recognition:
Productivity in scientific research as demonstrated by achievements in the form of authorship of: published papers, reports or books, resulting from output of scientific research related to the duties of the position.
NOTE:
Productivity or recognition includes developmental work leading to the issue of patents, copyrights, or the creation of improved varieties, functions, or designs, and/or recognition by the professional community of the research environment.
It also refers to recognized achievement in the form of authorship and editorship of published or unpublished reports, books, papers, or other communications resulting from:- Research, experimental development, or tasking associated with operational equipment and problems,
- Operational research and scientific analysis related to the duties of the position or,
- Planning, analysis and evaluation of Canadian and foreign programs in research and development.
Experience
- Experience in automated processes (virtual or physical) or establishing closed loop processes.
- Experience in collaborative research with universities, government, sciencebased nongovernment organizations or industry.
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be willing and able to work off site when required.
Travel within and outside Canada may be required.

Information on language requirements
Knowledge
- Knowledge of linking models to physical properties/processes to explain material behaviour.
- Knowledge of materials structure, property and processing relationships.
- Knowledge of experimental or simulation methods of automated materials discovery.
- Ability to plan, develop and implement simulation and experimental automated workflows.
- Ability to develop and design models that explain materials performance from scientific observations.
- Works well with others.
- Works well under pressure and with changing priorities.
- Demonstrates good judgement and problem solving skills.

Experience - Asset
- Experience in preparing proposals, developing and leading research projects
- Knowledge of artificial intelligence methods and libraries for utilization in closed loop processes
- Knowledge of data management software structures, access and practices
- Ability to utilize high performance computing systems for multicore software or GPU utilization for artificial intelligence
