Bechtel Infrastructure has been appointed as the Delivery Partner, supporting our customer Metrolinx as part of an integrated team, to help deliver the signature Ontario Line Subway (OLS) Project, a transformational transit project for the Greater Toronto Area.

The multibillion-dollar project scope includes the design, build, operations and maintenance of all infrastructure and rail systems associated with 15 stations and over 15km of new alignment.

The project is being delivered through major Public Private Partnership (P3) contracts, progressive design build (PDB) and design bid build (DBB) contracts, including multiple Early and Advanced works (EAW) contracts.


Position Summary


The Advance Works Field Specialist for the OLS Project is responsible for monitoring the technical requirements of the work including verifying quantities.

They will perform construction engineering assignments of a varied nature requiring a full working knowledge of construction engineering practices, exercise professional judgment within the framework of broad guidelines provided by superiors and may have responsibility to provide direction to less experienced construction engineers, or construction office technical or clerical personnel.


Responsibilities

  • Monitors the activities of contractors to ensure compliance with project technical requirements.
  • Ensure that safety and creation as well as maintenance of a safe workplace and environment is the primary consideration and first priority in the delivery of all work.
  • Reviews contractor's documentation including risk assessments, method statements and inspection and test plans. Attends necessary inspections of the works on behalf of Metrolinx.
  • Monitor's the contractor's assurance activities including the resolution of nonconforming items.
  • Assists construction managers and contractors in planning construction methods and procedures. Coordinates and resolves engineering or construction problems with superintendents and contractors.
  • Interprets design engineering drawings and may prepare construction working drawings for the use of construction managers and contractors as required, including (1) temporary construction facilities, (2) Field sketches of revisions and additions and preparing "as built" drawings.
  • Reviews design drawings, related vendor and contractor drawings and installation instructions and studies interference problems.
  • Verifies contractor's commodities on quantity tracking systems or other computer database programs as required.
  • Reviews field change notices/requests, extra work orders and back charge notices.
  • Implements project controls tools on the construction site.
  • Assists in the preparation of cost estimates and reviews project design and engineering bills of materials to ensure their completeness.
  • Prepares and maintains daily reports.
  • Reviews updated contractor schedules, as assigned.
  • Provides input to constructability and lessons learned.
  • May be required to provide input on employee reviews of assigned subordinate personnel.
  • Work assigned shifts including days and/or nights, or on a rotating shift as needed.

Job Knowledge

  • Knowledge of a single technical engineering discipline, contracts administration and/or cost and scheduling relating to the construction of airport projects.
  • Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet, and database.
  • Awareness of environmental compliance laws and requirements.
  • Knowledge of Bechtel's "Zero Accident" safety program.
  • Familiarity with current industry quality standards.

Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university as well as a minimum of 68 years of relevant work experience, or 1215 years relevant experience in the absence of a degree
  • Work experience as a field engineer, engineer, or assistant superintendent.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in the rail industry and/or largescale infrastructure.
