Key Responsibilities
Biology Laboratory Preparations
- Culture/ maintain bacteria & plants and other living organisms required for the biology labs
- Prepare media, standards, dilutions, buffers & stains
- Maintain knowledge of new developments & improvements in biological techniques
- Perform DNA extractions, digestions and ligations
- Ensure that all laboratories are correctly set up, organized & taken down for the courses offered through The Department
- Maintain instrumentation used in labs throughout the year
Quality Assurance and Safety
- Records, updates and maintains files, lists and general record keeping
- Prepare samples for safe & stable transport to internal laboratories with required documentation
- Perform all the necessary safety procedures appropriate to the lab & promptly report any deficiencies & hazards
- Maintain laboratory cleanliness & safety in adherence to Occupational Health & Safety legislation & WHMIS legislation
- Periodically conduct media quality control tests
- Maintain adequate quality control in the lab with appropriate documentation.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in a biology related field is required
- Minimum of two years of related experience
- Strong bench skills
- Familiar with laboratory safety procedures and a strong awareness of toxic chemicals used in biological labs
- Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines
- Willingness to learn new techniques
- A strong biology background with applied experience in lab procedures is required
- The successful candidate should possess excellent work ethics and technical skills and be able to safely work independently and in a dedicated team

Additional Information
This is a Full-Time Temporary AUPE appointment at the Lloydminster campus commencing March 30, 2026, and ending April 15, 2027.
