Key Responsibilities

Biology Laboratory Preparations

• Culture/ maintain bacteria & plants and other living organisms required for the biology labs
• Prepare media, standards, dilutions, buffers & stains
• Maintain knowledge of new developments & improvements in biological techniques
• Perform DNA extractions, digestions and ligations
• Ensure that all laboratories are correctly set up, organized & taken down for the courses offered through The Department
• Maintain instrumentation used in labs throughout the year

Quality Assurance and Safety

• Records, updates and maintains files, lists and general record keeping
• Prepare samples for safe & stable transport to internal laboratories with required documentation
• Perform all the necessary safety procedures appropriate to the lab & promptly report any deficiencies & hazards
• Maintain laboratory cleanliness & safety in adherence to Occupational Health & Safety legislation & WHMIS legislation
• Periodically conduct media quality control tests
• Maintain adequate quality control in the lab with appropriate documentation.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in a biology related field is required
• Minimum of two years of related experience
• Strong bench skills
• Familiar with laboratory safety procedures and a strong awareness of toxic chemicals used in biological labs
• Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines
• Willingness to learn new techniques
• A strong biology background with applied experience in lab procedures is required
• The successful candidate should possess excellent work ethics and technical skills and be able to safely work independently and in a dedicated team

This is a Full-Time Temporary AUPE appointment at the Lloydminster campus commencing March 30, 2026, and ending April 15, 2027.
