The Payroll & Benefits Specialist is a member of the Golden Links Lodge Business Team responsible for preparing and processing the bi-weekly payroll and for providing administrative support and coordination related to employee benefit documentation, claims processing and other associated reporting requirements.

The Payroll & Benefits Specialist will assist staff with other benefit and ability management enquiries and may support other related HR functions and projects.


The Payroll & Benefits Specialist reports to the Human Resources Manager and will work closely with other members of the Business Office Team.


Performs all duties in accordance with established health and safety regulations/guidelines, policies, and procedures (i.e., utilizing personal, protective equipment as per safe work procedures).

Notifies management or supervisor of all occurrences, injuries, illnesses or safety and health concerns which are likely to harm themselves, their co-workers, or any others who enter the premises.


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Completion of a formal training program in a related discipline from a recognized institute such as such as a Canadian Payroll Association certification, Payroll Compliance Practitioner designation, certificate in Human Resource Management, certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) designation or a Group Benefits Associate (GBA) designation.
  • Two (2) years practical experience with payroll and other HR functions, preferably in a health care setting.
  • Strong customer service orientation and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience processing a full cycle multistate and/or multi provincial payroll for 150+ employees.
  • Demonstrated proficiency working in a computerized payroll and HR environment and with Human Resources Information Systems (knowledge of QHR Logibec Quadrant Workforce is an asset).
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Office 365 environment.
  • Experience working with and understanding of collective agreements.
  • Ability to communicate (verbal and written) in English is required.
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills and proven ability to establish and maintain successful working relationships at all levels within the organization and with external stakeholders (i.e., benefit providers).
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment and respond to competing priorities with initiative and organizational skill.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships and to converse in a professional manner and collaborate with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to retain information on a strictly confidential basis.
  • Ability to demonstrate a satisfactory employment record, including attendance.
  • Current Criminal Record Check for the Vulnerable sector and Adult Abuse Registry Check deemed satisfactory by the Employer.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and support of: Applicable rules, acts and regulations and understands the importance of accuracy, security and statutory responsibilities in performing tasks.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision and possess initiative to seek improvements.
  • Motivated selfstarter with capabilities to work within a fastpaced teamoriented environment.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Responsible for the biweekly processing of full cycle payroll.
  • Reconcile and submit all payroll pay period and monthly remittances, completion of quarterly and/or yearend reporting, T4/W2 processing, taxable benefit calculations and ROE's.
  • Provide support for monthly tax updates as well as all payroll submissions.
  • Reconcile and prepare monthly benefit billings for payments.
  • Related to payroll; handle general inquiries, questions, and concerns from all employees regarding payroll and benefits while maintaining clear respectful communication.
  • Responsible for all payroll processing.
  • Ability to work under strict deadlines; proven organizational, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Enter, update, and verify all payroll transactions in QHR payroll system.
  • Verify accuracy of payroll submissions from each department to ensure information is documented and received timely and accurately for each employee.
  • Record and ensure exception reporting for all employees.
