We seek an
Assistant Golf Course and Grounds Manager to join our Golf Course & Grounds team.

This is a permanent full-time position with benefits which must be able to work flexible shifts which include evenings, weekends and holidays.


Under the supervision and direction of the Golf Course and Grounds Manager, the Assistant Golf Course and Grounds Manager will perform his/her duties to ensure the overall operation and management of the golf course runs efficiently and productively.

The Assistant Golf Course and Grounds Manager will be responsible for the planning, scheduling, coordinating, supervising the grounds crew performing assignments in the development and maintenance of the golf course.


An Overview of Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for managing and maintaining the golf course, clubhouse grounds and landscaping, maintenance equipment, wooded areas and other areas on the property as specified by the Golf Course and Grounds Manager.
  • Implement the coordination of plans for course construction, reconstruction or renovation to ensure the assignment is completed efficiently.
  • Aid the Golf Course and Grounds Manager in the hiring, training, supervising and evaluation of department staff.
  • Handles the scheduling of personnel and equipment/task assignment of the department to ensure all work is accomplished promptly and correctly.
  • Assign course maintenance and repair projects to staff and ensure all tasks are completed correctly.
  • Perform regular inspections to ensure the equipment, golf course and grounds are safe for members, guests and staff.
  • Execute sophisticated turf renovation on golfing greens, tee and fairways when required.
  • Assist the management by addressing expenditures related to the grounds department and exercises cost control measures to keep operating and capital expenses in line with the approved budgets.
  • Oversees daily irrigation schedules, utilizing field satellite and computerized central control to ensure a smooth operation and assists in field repairs to infrastructure as needed.
  • Assists in developing the budget projection for the golf course by developing time and material estimates and recommending major equipment purchases and operational changes.
  • Identifies plant pathogens and other pests and provides recommendations to the Golf Course and Grounds Manager regarding methods for control.
  • Frequently inspect the golf course to ensure compliance with established maintenance standards.

Job Requirements:


  • Post-Secondary education in Turf Management is required.
  • 13 years of experience in the field is required, preferably at a private golf course.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a Management/Supervisory position is required.
  • Advanced knowledge of agronomy and turf grass management practices is required.
  • Certified IPM Agent within 6 months of employment.
  • Provincial certification or licensing as a pesticide applicator.
  • Possession of valid Driver's license and safe driving record.
  • Knowledge on how to operate turf management equipment is strongly recommended
  • Knowledge and working experience in the management and operations of tennis courts is an assets.
  • Must be able to work under pressure while maintaining composure and performance standard during busy peak periods.
  • Knowledge of current federal, provincial, and local laws and regulations affecting the management of golf course operations (including, but not limited to, employment, safety and environmental standards, laws and regulations).

Licence/Certification:

  • Pesticide Applicators License (required)
  • Turfgrass Management Certificate/Degree (preferred)
  • Certified IPM Agent within 6 Months after acquiring the position
