    The opportunity

    Reporting to the AVP Reporting and Projects, the Senior Financial Accountant (SFA) is a key member of the Group Finance Accounting team supporting Corporate and Corporate Reinsurance businesses.

    How will you create impact?

    The incumbent will contribute to the financial reporting, planning, and forecasting processes. The role, under general supervision, is responsible for conducting accounting and analyses, including detailed calculations and internal and external reporting. The position provides an exciting opportunity to learn about various businesses, gain an understanding of accounting, operating and control environments, play an integral role in fulfilling key deliverables, and work with seasoned professionals of accounting, audit, and financial reporting backgrounds.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Provide support to the monthly/quarterly close process including preparing journal entries and variance analysis as well as drafting commentary.
    • Perform control processes on accounts reconciliations for intercompany/intersegment transactions. This includes preparation of clearing entries and summary report.
    • Manage account ownership certification and confirmation for SOX purposes.
    • Prepare variance analysis and draft commentary for financial statements review templates.
    • Facilitate the preparation of financial statements for various corporate subsidiaries. This includes preparing the working paper summary, gathering supporting data and documentation for necessary adjustments, and drafting financial statements and notes required.
    • Prepare quarterly Statistics Canada submissions selected financial data for MFC and its subsidiaries.
    • Support Project and BAU Initiatives of Corporate Team.
    • Assist with ongoing analysis of workflow processes and establishment of new procedures, improve and re-engineer current processes to streamline and gain efficiencies.
    • Assist with various planning transformation initiatives as they arise (i.e Anaplan, Expense study).
    • Support the leaders in building a strong team by ensuring the delivery of excellent customer service through proactively promoting client centricity.

    What we are looking for

    • University Business Degree and/or recognized accounting designation (CPA is preferred)
    • 3+ years of progressive financial accounting experience.
    • Strong stakeholder management skills requiring persuasion and influencing, relationship building and negotiation skill.
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
    • Strong technical accounting skills.
    • PowerBI and database knowledge is an advantage.
    • Self-starter, diligent, willingness to take ownership and accountability of processes.
    • Strong oral/written communication skills required to interact with senior officers and representatives from other functional areas.
    • Highly organized with an ability to work in a fast-paced, multi stakeholder environment and manage several priorities.
    • Understanding of Lawson or general finance systems / applications available in the market.
    • Intermediate to Advanced knowledge of Excel.
    • Proficient in MS Office suite including Outlook, Word, Power Point, and Project.
    • Overtime may be required to meet business deadlines.
