About the Role:


At Bethany, a career as a Therapy Assistant - Long Term Care, is both personally and professionally challenging and rewarding.

As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide compassionate and client-focused quality care to individuals in a beautiful homelike setting.

You are focused on the resident experience, not task completion. You assist wherever you are needed - at mealtimes, participating in therapies, or helping your colleagues.


What You Will Do:


The Therapy Assistant - Long Term Care, is accountable for providing opportunities for the residents to realize their maximum potential.

The Therapy Assistant provides services responsive to the holistic needs of the residents and promotes choice while maintaining dignity and facilitating independence.

Individual responsibilities will fall under five main areas of focus:


  • Resident Centered Care
  • Promotes service excellence through active participation with the Interdisciplinary Team to achieve and maintain quality resident care within the scope of Occupational/Recreation Therapy as directed by the Therapist.

Documentation

  • Accurate, comprehensive and timely documentation of resident care interventions and outcomes in alignment with Bethany policies and procedures.

Safety

  • Contributes to a safe environment for residents, team and self by understanding and adhering to safety guidelines and practices at all times.

Active Learning
  • Demonstrates the vision and values of Bethany and lives out the mission of Creating Caring Communities.

Team Work
  • Cares for and actively participates and assists the Interdisciplinary Team to achieve and maintain a responsible atmosphere of resident centered care.

What You Will Do:


Under the direction and supervision of the Recreation Therapist/Occupational Therapist, the Therapy Assistant has the unique opportunity to perform a dual role, running new and ongoing programs and activities in accordance with Bethany's philosophy, objectives and standards, while providing opportunities for our residents to reach their full potential.

Individual responsibilities will fall under five main areas of focus:


  • Resident Centered Care

- promote service excellence and responsive to residents' needs in accordance with resident care plans, policies and procedures.

Documentation - accurately and comprehensively document and report care and related observations the Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse in a timely manner.

Safety - contributes to a safe environment for residents, the team and self by understanding and adhering to safety guidelines and practices at all times.

Active Learning - role models Bethany's vision, mission and values on a daily basis, and understands and follows all Standards of Conduct.

Team Work - works cooperatively with others as an effective team member.


What You Bring:


  • High School Diploma or equivalent plus a Therapy Assistant Diploma
  • Class 4 Driver's License
  • 3+ years' experience in a continuing care setting is preferred.
  • Dementia care training (Supportive pathways or Gentle Persuasive Approach) would be considered an asset.
  • Active membership in good standing with ATRA
  • Must be able to perform lifts and maneuver/transfer residents
  • Shall possess excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience providing care to the elderly, disabled & those will all stages of dementia is an asset
