INTER-CULTURAL COORDINATOR


Since 1910, the Montreal City Mission (MCM) has been working in solidarity with immigrant children, youth, adults, and families as they integrate into Montreal and Canadian society through providing enriching, empowering programs, including Just Solutions Legal Info Clinic for refugees and immigrants, Seniors' Mobile Legal Clinic for refugees and immigrants, Every Senior Choir, Every Kid Choir, and Camp Cosmos.

Through our Intercultural Program, we hope to improve our human right-based and anti-oppressive focus by building links between our various programs, participants, and other community organizations.


This year, we at Montreal City Mission are looking to expand our human rights-based workshops for youth, while strengthening our connections between our newcomer clientele and the Aboriginal community in and around Montreal.

The MCM offers a day camp for youth every summer, focusing on environmental justice and multiculturalism.


Description:


Working as a team with the Camp Cosmos Directors, the Intercultural Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of Camp Cosmos' Intercultural Program.

They will design and deliver human rights-based workshops for youth, facilitate training workshops for Camp Cosmos staff on human rights and anti-oppression practice, and plan community events that bring together MCM program coordinators, participants, and members of various communities within Montreal.


Responsibilities:


  • Meet with Camp Directors to better understand the current human rights strategies and what can be improved
  • Identify and contact community organizations that work with members from diverse cultural communities, including immigrants, refugees, and Indigenous communities, in order to begin potential collaborations
  • With support of Camp Directors plan and facilitate 35 human rightsbased workshops/activities for youth
  • With support of Directors, plan and facilitate 12 community events that bring together MCM program participants and members of various community organizations in Montreal that work with immigrants, refugees, and members of Indigenous communities
  • Acquire all needed support material for workshops and community events
  • Participate in weekly checkin with MCM Director and other program coordinators
  • Compile a human rights/intercultural competency resource binder for MCM staff

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Working knowledge of a second language (French or English), strong communication in a first language (French or English), additional languages an asset
  • Experience working with children, youth, and/or adults from immigrant and/or refugee backgrounds an asset
  • Commitment to principles of human rights, social justice, and antioppression
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Experience with program, event, and workshop planning and evaluation an asset
  • Experience in leadership position an asset
  • Strong communication skills (listening, expressing)
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to think outside the box, problemsolve
  • Good time management skills
  • Love of learning
  • References required

SALARY DETAILS
- $18.50/hour

  • June 6th
  • June 30th: 1030 hours/ week (flexible)
  • July 5th
  • August 12th: 40 hours/ week
  • 20 hours after camp to complete an exit report
