General Dynamics Missions Systems-Canada is currently hiring for a Payroll Administrator to join our corporate Payroll team. Our experienced team is responsible for administering payroll queries for approximately 1,200 colleagues across Canada.

We are looking for someone who likes to keep busy, has a strong sense of initiative and demonstrated history of effectively communicating with stakeholders and colleagues.


Some of the responsibilities will include data entry, reconciliation of timecards and providing support to both the Payroll Team and to employees in day to day operations, so you should have an understanding of payroll systems and experience with basic payroll automation.

This position follows a Hybrid working model with a mix of home and on-site work.

Responsible for producing the bi-weekly payroll (Oracle Financial and Oracle Time & Labour) and performing activities which include:

  • answering inquiries from employees;
- processing payroll for union/non-union employees, hourly & salaried;
- labour edit and weekly, bi-weekly processing;
- assist in payroll year end filing;
- assist with resolving any processing issues;
- ad-hoc reporting as required;

  • Oracle Time & Labour administration
  • Process new hires and terminations (pay, bank info, tax credits, vacation pay severance pay, records of employment) and changes/updates
  • Assist with Record of Employment submissions
  • Assist with employee record adjustments/corrections/incentives/bonus
  • Administer and distribute reports as instructed
  • Correspond with employees & managers regarding timesheets submissions & approvals
  • Deliver instruction/training to employees regarding the use of payrollrelated systems including entry of timesheets, online access of pay statements, etc.
  • Collect and enter data into spreadsheets and the payroll system
  • Build and run custom reports
  • Prepare journal vouchers (payroll/labour/accruals system and manual)
  • Help to reconcile payroll related general ledger accounts
  • Payments to internal and external organizations (WSIB, family support)
  • Assisting with provincial workers compensation payments, returns, etc.
  • Maintain payroll/records/storage for auditing purposes
  • Assist with processing T4/T4A's
  • Conduct database queries and reports
  • Stays current to related and applicable legislation (Income Tax Act, Employment Standards Act)

Basic Qualifications:
Required Skills & Experience

  • 2 years' experience in payroll (within an Oracle environment would be an asset)
  • Must have Advanced level skills in Microsoft Excel
  • Strong critical thinking skills to respond to inquiries
  • Familiarity with T4 processing and other government forms
  • Customer service experience necessary
  • Efficient in Payroll software
  • Proven ability to learn new systems
  • Experience with accounting for payroll transactions
  • Strong organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, consistently meet deadlines, and work independently with some supervision
  • Excellent communication, decision making and customer service skills
  • Payroll certification and membership in the National Payroll Institute is required
Education

  • A College degree in business administration or related field or equivalent.
  • PCP certification with the National Payroll Institute
Must be able to obtain and maintain Canadian Security Clearance and a positive Controlled Goods Assessment. Eligibility to work in Canada either as a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
