Job Summary:

Free Play for Kids is searching for dynamic, enthusiastic full time and part time basketball Coaches. If you have experience coaching or playing basketball and love working with kids of all ages, we want you to join us


The role is suited to people with lots of basketball coaching experience, lots of energy, and are ready to be a great leader and mentor.

We are looking for a full time basketball head coach as well as part time coaches.


Education & Qualifications

  • Taking, or completed, a degree or diploma in Physical Education, Sport and Recreation, Kinesiology, Education, Sociology, Psychology, Early Childhood Education, or equivalent from a recognized post secondary institution.
  • Experience coaching/leading youth sport teams. Playing experience will be considered.
  • Valid certifications in coaching would be considered a major asset.
  • Standard First Aid Certification and CPR training.
  • Valid Driver's Licence with no at fault accidents.
  • Clear up to date vulnerable sector checks.

Full Time(40 hours per week) - Basketball head coach - Responsibilities

  • Coach the senior most or most competitive team in their category; male coaches coach boys teams and female coaches coach girls teams
  • Manage all communications with athletes and parents for their assigned team
  • Manage all administration of all the teams in their category, across all ages.
  • Mentor, advice, and guide other coaches in their categories: This will entail attending sessions, providing feedback and running technical sessions with all other basketball coaches.
  • Support & Collaborate with Program manager on the development of the game and training model for the basketball program.
  • Work with youth between the ages of years old within their teams.
  • Conducting formal and informal skills assessments for program participants.
  • Completing additional training and certifications as required through the Free Play training program, such as Making Ethical Decisions and Safe Sport courses.
  • Must be able to travel to various locations within Edmonton.

Part Time hours per week) - Basketball team coach - Responsibilities

  • Coach one of the Junior basketball team; male coaches coach boys teams and female coaches coach girls teams
  • Manage all communications with athletes and parents of their assigned team
  • Collaborate with Head coach and Plan sessions that adhere to the Wolves club's coaching philosophy as well as the game and training model.
  • Completing additional training and certifications as required through the Free Play training program, such as Making Ethical Decisions and Safe Sport courses.
  • Must be able to travel to various locations within Edmonton.

Partial Part Time hours) - Assistant basketball coach - Responsibilities:

  • Support the lead coaches during games and practices to run sessions
  • Must be able to travel various locations within Edmonton
  • Completing additional training and certifications as required through the Free Play training program, such as Making Ethical Decisions and Safe Sport courses.

Position Conditions

  • Practices and games are scheduled during late afternoon (after 3:00PM)
  • Evening and weekend availability is required as there will be games that occur on the weekends.

Salary:
$17.00-$22.00 per hour
