    Description

    Your Opportunity:

    The Alberta Children's Hospital (ACH) is a warm & vibrant workplace, with team members providing service to children & their families in inpatient units & ambulatory clinics. As part of the Therapeutic Arts Program, the certified music therapist will be responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of a music therapy program designed to meet the specific needs of patients and families. The music therapist uses music purposefully within therapeutic relationships to support development, health and well-being. The music therapist will work with children & youth primarily on inpatient units and onsite mental health programs as well as complimentary sites/programs including Rotary Flames House and the Child Development Centre. Leadership in the form of training and supervision of site volunteers and music therapy students/fellows is required.

    Description:

    As a Music Therapist, you will assess, evaluate, develop and document clinical goals in consultation with patients, families and other members of the interdisciplinary team. You will address patient- and family-centred needs within cognitive, communicative, emotional, musical, physical, social and spiritual domains. As a Music Therapist, you will use a variety of evidence-based interventions which may include education, singing, playing instruments, movement to music, improvisation, composition, songwriting, imagery and music, and listening. You will function in adherence to the Canadian Association of Music Therapists (CAMT) Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice.

    Required Qualifications:

    Completion of a bachelor's degree in Music Therapy. Active or eligible for full accredited membership (MTA) in the Canadian Association of Music Therapists (CAMT). A member in good standing with the Canadian Association of Music Therapists (CAMT).

    Additional Required Qualifications:

    Experience of working with children and families, with preference for healthcare settings and children with medical and/or developmental needs.Experience facilitating groups.Knowledge of child development.Education/experience supporting patients & families: adjustment to diagnosis, medical compliance and grief & loss.Member of Canadian Association of Music Therapists.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Minimum two years' experience working in pediatric hospital– within inter-disciplinary team acute &tertiary pediatrics & complex populations.Master Of Music Therapy.Connect Care trained.Experience supervising music therapy interns.
