Your Opportunity


The role of Rail Lead will work closely with our Rail and Transit Lead, our Business Center Leadership Team as well as our discipline specific Team Leads (Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Major Projects, Construction Administration, CAD, Bridges,).

This is an exciting opportunity to bring forward new ideas, grow the team and build on our business center values of excellence, innovation, and people.


You will be empowered to lead a team of 5 individuals and will ultimately be responsible for the performance and success of our Rail and Transit Team.


This opportunity is ideal for a motivated individual who is a proven leader with direct experience in rail design for the LRTs, SkyTrain and Class 1 Canadian rail sector.

You will be passionate about working with people and have a thorough understanding of Track Design with a focus on the full design and construction lifecycle.

This position will report directly to the Rail and Transit Lead.


Your Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Team Leads as well as the BCOL and BCPL
  • Build on current momentum and experience so we continue to be seen as experts in this area. Build on award winning project experience to develop an unrivaled team. Look for and pursue growth opportunities in line with business objectives
  • Assist with the development and implementation of quality management practices
  • Proactively look for ways to improve design delivery, quality, and efficiency
  • Responsible for workforce planning and project resourcing
  • Make recommendations to leadership for training, staff development and software requirements based on industry trends
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key clients
  • Facilitate additional relationships from your team with target accounts
  • Successfully lead new project pursuits to maintain an adequate back log of work for your team
  • Oversee your team's utilization of Pipeline, Stantec's internal sales software program
  • Support interdisciplinary and interBC strategic pursuits
  • Support the annual BC business planning process
  • Support additional marketing and business development efforts as needed
  • Participate in regular meetings with team leads and BC leadership
  • Recruit talent, grow team members and support succession planning
  • Lead and supervise a team of engineers and technical staff to ensure projects' needs are met in a timely and effective manner
  • Facilitate goal setting, coaching, and performance review with each of your team members
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, standards and thought leadership
  • Promote our strong safety culture, ensure this is at the forefront of our business and lead by example
  • Actively communicate with your team and be a conduit of information between BC Leadership, Senior Leadership, and the organization
  • Ensure corporate and BC requirements are met including mandatory training, safety requirements and professional development
  • Ensure professional requirements from regulatory bodies such as a EGBC and APEGA are consistently followed, and any changes or updates are communicated to the broader team

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Business development and marketing skills required. Ability to lead, motivate, mentor, and develop a team of technical and professional staff
  • Participates and collaborates in project team settings and engages in creative and critical thought
  • Comfortable leading a team and supporting individuals' professional development and career growth
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant design software
  • Demonstrates leadership, sound business principles, excellent communication, and strong people skills.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Engineering
  • Licensed Professional Engineer or equivalent with a minimum of 10 years of experience
Position will primarily work in an office setting and may require some field work.
