Overview:

Lafarge is recruiting a
Maintenance Supervisor for a position located in Exshaw, AB.

Successful people working at the plant have a background in mining or similar industries and in working with large industrial projects/equipment.

Previous experience in a leadership role is required for this position. This role is one of two positions reporting to the Maintenance Coordinator.

Reporting directly to the Maintenance Supervisor are 20 Tradesmen and/or apprentices; this role would be responsible for ~50% of those employees.


Responsibilities:


  • To conduct the maintenance activities which have been scheduled by the Maintenance Coordinator and complete safe execution with a dedicated crew of tradespeople
  • Ensure that tasks are performed in a safe, productive and timely manner, while continuing to improve company and employee relationships within the context of the collective agreement and corporate policy
  • Encourage employee engagement through communication, training and performance feedback
  • Tracking and recording information for any maintenance issues that arise in accordance with safety standards in SAP
  • Providing regular communication of job status to the Coordinator and other management as required
  • Responsible for participating in the salaried oncall program.
  • Taking on a role as a safety leader, responsible to ensure that all direct reports adhere to plant safety policy and is responsible to remove roadblocks that would interfere with adherence to policy
  • Assigning overtime, taking into account callout procedures, overtime equalization, job continuation etc.

Plant Characteristics:


  • 1,300,000 tonnes of clinker per year currently. Capacity of 2,000,000 tonnes.
  • 1,400,000 tonnes of cement per year. Capacity of 2,400,000 tonnes.
  • Three quarries: Limestone, Shale and Sandstone
  • Crushing: 1350 tph primary / secondary crusher c/w screening.
  • Storage: Prehomo and clinker with auto stacking and reclaiming.
  • Raw Grinding: Two 155 tph closed circuit ball mills, plus One 345 tph vertical roller mill.
  • Burning: Two precalciner kilns (2400 tpd and 4200 tpd, respectively)
  • Finish Grinding: Two closed circuit ball mills, plus One 250 tph vertical cement mill.
  • Shipping: Cement by truck and rail
  • Products:
  • Clinker
  • AASHTO, HS and OWG


  • Cement

  • GU, HS, OWG, HE.

Qualifications:


  • A good mechanical aptitude
  • 3+ years' Supervisory experience leading a team
  • Experience working in a union environment
  • Ability to work in an industrial environment that may include dust, heat, loud noise etc.
  • Experience working in mining, steel or similar industries is desirable
  • Recognition of the safety element of the job
