    Lab Instructor

    Primary Purpose: To provide supervision, training and maintaining safety standards of undergraduate students and design teams' use of the ALC fabricating labs.

    Typical Duties :

  • Operation and maintenance of the HASS CNC Mill and Lathe, including training undergraduate students in proper safety/ operating procedures.
  • In conjunction with the ALC Director, develop a lab manual/ procedure for the use of CNC equipment.
  • Ensure undergraduate students' proper training and supervision on the use and maintenance of all equipment in the labs.
  • Document safety training of undergraduate students using ALC facilities.
  • Provide support in the acquisition of tooling and supplies for the CNC and other fabricating equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Work Hours and Benefits : This position is a supervisory position on Saturdays from 9:00-5:00. Actual hours will be discussed with undergrad students and design teams to meet their needs.

    Requirements

  • Excellent mechanical skills with strong attention to detail, accuracy, and safety.
  • Strong programming centered around Solidworks and Solidworks cam or equivalent drawing and gcode generation for cnc.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Strong verbal communication and writing skills
  • Ability to work with a variety of fabricating tools and equipment, including bandsaws, ironworkers, welders, drill presses, grinders, etc., typically found in a fabrication shop.
  • Education and Experience :

  • A machinist/ Fabricator background is required.
  • Working knowledge of safety protocols pertaining to CNC and fabricating equipment.
