Duties:


The Parliamentary Protective Service (PPS) is responsible for physical security within the Parliamentary Precinct and on the grounds of Parliament Hill.

The PPS; protects Members of Parliament and Senators, employees and visitors in the Parliamentary Precinct; keeps the peace; maintains order; enforces respect for Parliamentary rules and procedures; and promotes security and safety measures in all buildings within the Parliamentary Precinct.


The Detection Specialist is a member of the PPS and performs the vital role of identifying questionable, prohibited and restricted items through detection and reporting during the scanning process in designated buildings, predominantly where Members of Parliament and Senators conduct their business.

The Detection Specialist is responsible for the enforcement of scanning regulations with visitors seeking access to the Parliament buildings and for the detection and prevention of questionable, restricted and prohibited items from entering these buildings.

The Detection Specialist receives and directs visitors through the electronic screening process and is also part of an integrated protective posture that controls access and will conduct scanning of all vehicles accessing Parliament Hill.

EDUCATION:
A high school diploma OR an acceptable combination of experience, training and education.

Degree equivalency


EXPERIENCE:
E- Recent* and significant** experience demonstrating judgment in a work environment.

E- Recent* and Significant** experience working in a team.

E- Recent* and significant** experience providing client service in a work environment.


DEFINITIONS:

  • Recent means within the last five (5) years.
**Significant is defined as the depth and breadth of experience normally associated with having performed a broad range of complex activities related to this position, which are acquired on a full-time basis over a period of two (2) years.

A- Automated External Defibrillation (AED) certification or training.

A- Recent* work experience in the detection field and in the use of detection devices.


OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS


You MUST be available and willing to work various day and night shifts and schedules of up to 12 hours, including weekends and statutory holidays.

This job operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

There is a physical effort in the job that requires you to stand and walk continuously while on duty.
