Position Highlights

Work closely with the Canadian Corporate Investment Banking Energy team to manage client relationships across a complex portfolio of public and private companies.


Provide ongoing credit management including:

completion of credit presentations, identifying lending and cross-sell opportunities, preparing client presentations and pitches, structuring loan transactions, negotiating documentation, monitoring compliance and industry trends.


Is this role right for you?

  • Assist with client relationships across a complex portfolio of public and private energy producers, midstreamers and diversified clients; deliver solutions across suite of products and services offered by GBM and rest of Bank
  • Assist in identifying and developing business opportunities with clients to market a range of credit and nonlending products and services to corporate and/or institutional clients
  • Assist with managing loan portfolio to achieve financial and profitability targets while managing industry portfolio risk and loan losses
  • Assist with management of loan portfolio including: structuring and executing new transactions, credit presentations for annual reviews, coordination of account management with team members and Global Risk Management, amendments to existing credit facilities
  • Ensure credit presentations follow Bank standards, and are accurate, concise and complete
  • Perform due diligence on transactions that vary in complexity
  • Ensure credit files, agreements and security documents are complete and up to date
  • Monitor and follow for client compliance reporting requirements
  • Demonstrate clear understanding of the Bank's credit policies and procedures ensuring the portfolio is managed within appropriate parameters and within regulatory requirements
  • Legal dimension includes structuring credit deals to manage risk accordingly (including review of credit agreements and ancillary legal documents)
  • Champions a high performance environment and contributes to an inclusive work environment to attract, retain, develop and motivate team and other Bank colleagues by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours
  • Train and develop Analysts; act as an informal mentor for other team members
  • Create an environment in which team pursues effective and efficient operations of respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of daytoday business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?

  • 3+ years of corporate or commercial banking experience
  • 3+ years of energy lending experience preferred
  • Knowledge and understanding of capital markets and corporate lending space in Canada with responsibilities for transactions abroad (U.S., Europe, Asia)
  • Understanding of the Bank's credit policies and procedures ensuring the portfolio is managed within appropriate parameters and within regulatory requirements
  • Strong quantitative skills focused on financial analysis and accounting
  • Clear communication with clients and internal/external contacts
  • Excellent command of Microsoft Suite, with an emphasis on Excel and PowerPoint
  • High level of attention to detail, ability to excel under pressure and perform effectively in a team setting
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a high standard of work
  • High professional standards including a strong sense of personal integrity and teamwork
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly adapt to new situations
  • High level of energy, willingness to work long hours and a keen desire to learn new concepts
  • Independent thinker with proven ability to make decisions
