Description

We are currently seeking an energetic, team-oriented individual looking for career growth to join our safety team out of our Castlegar, BC office. The Martech Group of Companies is comprised of Martech Electrical, Martech Motor Winding, and Marwest Industries. We service industrial, commercial, and residential clients throughout the Kootenays and offer electrical services, motor rewind, structural steel fabrication and welding, and civil construction services. We work with a multitude of tradespeople ranging from Welders/Fabricators, Electricians, Powerline Technicians, Electric Motor Systems Technicians, Machinists, Industrial Painters, Carpenters, and Operators. We have locations in Fernie and Cranbrook BC with our head offices in Castlegar, BC.
The
Full-Time position of
Safety Coordinator will report to our Corporate Safety Manager and will be responsible for contributing and coordinating all Martech Group of Companies safety processes, procedures, and program up to and including:

• Develop a variety of Safety Meeting Agendas both internal and external
• Present and review safety best practices, statistics, and topics with both internal and external stakeholders
• Conduct site hazard assessments
• Participate in the review and development of corporate OH&S Manual
• Complete weekly or monthly job site inspections and reporting
• Safe Work Plan Development
• Lead and Facilitate site safety meetings
• Attend morning tailboard meetings
• Assist with site safety assessment, execution, and ongoing monitoring
• Participate in inspections and investigations
• Incident follow up and investigations
• Support all field safety documentation
• Coordinate safety training as required
• Coordinating and Consulting with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and teammates
• Ability to identify and professionally address safety issues to resolution
• Assist with developing and driving company safety processes, procedures, and plans
• Participate in annual corporate COR Safety Audits
• Safety inspections, sourcing, and inventory management of basic and specialized PPE
• Navigating and maintaining third party or client online platforms
• Conduct Respirator Fit Tests
• Job site safety orientations
• Perform general administrative and recordkeeping functions; report writing, tenders or bids, document review/sorting, and maintenance of tracking sheets
• Representing the company in a professional manner

EDUCATION

• NCSO Certificate
• Preferred completion of a postsecondary diploma or certificate in Occupational Health & Safety
• Leadership for Safety Excellence (considered an asset)
• COR Auditor Certification (considered an asset)

QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES AND ABILITIES

• 2+ years of relevant experience in the safety field
• Electrical, Fabrication, or Civil Construction experience (considered an asset)
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Attention to detail, organized, and time management skills
• Proficient with MS Office platforms
• Must possess a valid Class 5 Drivers License with clean drivers abstract
• Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills. Must be able to coach, facilitate, and influence cultural and behavioral change in the workplace toward safety
• Demonstrated the capacity to work both individually and within a team, provide situational leadership and communicate effectively both in formal and informal settings
• Ability to work in a fastpaced, dynamic work environment
• Knowledge of WorkSafe BC regulations, policies, guidelines, and standards
• Positive attitude towards safety and safe work activities
• Willingness to learn
