Reporting to the City and the County, the Poundkeeper will represent the best interests of both municipalities in ensuring that the daily operation of the Regional Animal Pound is carried out as per the Regional Pound operating agreement and according to applicable animal legislation.


Job Duties and Tasks:


  • Supervise Kennel Attendants including recruitment, hiring, performance evaluations and management, provide training, keep positive employee relations with the ability to mediate problems, prioritizing, scheduling, and assigning work and related activities.
  • Work with Kennel Attendants to ensure the maintenance of the Regional Pound and general care of impounded animals. This includes cleaning and disinfecting kennels; general cleaning of the Regional Pound; general cleaning, upkeep of the property, and maintaining the Pound inventory items.
  • Work with Kennel Attendants to ensure the feeding, watering and behavioral assessments of impounded animals.
  • Monitor the intake of animals and ensure that the facility is not sheltering animals beyond capacity or Council mandates.
  • Work with Kennel Attendants to ensure the release of impounded animals. Releasing impounded animals to owners upon collection of all reclaim fees.
  • Work with Bylaw Enforcement Officers assigned to Animal Control duties from the City and the County to ensure that impounded animals are properly booked into the Regional Pound.
  • Works with City and County to develop short
- and long-term operational processes; develops and recommends policies and procedures; establishes and implements management systems to effectively meet operating goals and objectives.

  • Oversees animal admissions, custodial and remedial care, adoptions, and euthanasia in accordance with applicable legislation, regulations, and Council mandates.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Grade 12 diploma. Preference may be given to an individual with postsecondary education in animal sciences, law enforcement, or related field.
  • Preference may be given to an individual with animal control and or law enforcement experience.
  • Preference may be given to an individual with animal pound or shelter related experience.
  • Municipal bylaw enforcement, animal control practices, animal pound practices, legal system, service of legal documents including municipal tags and violation tickets.
  • Strong MS Office skills
  • Knowledge of animal behaviour and breeds
  • Ability to deal with members of the public in a professional manner
  • Experience supervising staff, providing coaching and feedback
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license and a clean driver's abstract

Work Schedule:


This position works out of the Regional Animal Pound and Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm for 35 hours per week.


Hourly Pay:
$50.34 to $59.22 per hour
