FLNRORD is one of five ministries jointly responsible for managing the natural resource sector and balancing economic opportunities with environmental stewardship.

The main focus of the Economist - Compensation is to design and implement complex statistical and financial analysis, economic modelling projects, resource economic projects, and advise senior executives on matters directly impacting goals, tenure concentration and the marketing of fibre, compensation valuation, compensation objectives and financial commitments of the Ministry or Government

Job Requirements:


  • A Master's Degree in Economics, Finance, or closely related field, such as: statistics, mathematics, or equivalent.
  • Experience in the design and implementation of statistical analysis, finance and economic modelling projects.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a data intensive analytic environment.
  • Academic and/or practical experience in resource economics.
  • Experience with timber, other land use, infrastructure and business valuation principles and techniques.
  • Experience with relevant provincial compensation regulatory policies, legal aspects, and processes.
  • Experience with relevant provincial marketing of fibre regulatory policies with respect to timber tenure transfers or changes of control.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
Preference may be given to applicants with one or more of the following:

  • Background in finance and business analysis.
  • Experience working with large data sets, natural resource valuation techniques and discounting.
  • Experience conducting network analysis and attribution modelling.
  • Experience connecting different data sources into a connected system or database format.
  • Experience and aptitude programming large queries and analyses using corporate database tools such as SQL, R, and GIS platforms.
  • Experience in forest, lands or other natural resource management and governance, either within government or industry.
