The Opportunity:


Reporting to the Manager and with accountability to the Professional Practice Leader for issues pertaining to Professional Standards of Practice and Ethics.

The Dietitian/Nutritionist collaborates and consults on nutrition management as a member of the interprofessional Adult Surgery Ambulatory team.

The core component of the position will focus on the nutritional management of patients experiencing chronic pelvic pain and pelvic floor dysfunction.

The Dietitian/Nutritionist provides assessment, intervention, and follow-up (as indicated) on a direct, consultative, or monitoring basis. The Dietitian/Nutritionist and participates in the development of services through care team meetings, working groups, and sub-committees as required.

The Dietitian/Nutritionist will mentor/precept dietetic interns and other affiliating learners on normal and therapeutic nutrition in accordance with the mission, vision, and philosophies of IWK Health.

The Dietitian/Nutritionist provides nutrition education and acts as a mentor to dietetic interns and as a resource to other multidisciplinary students, staff and physicians.

The dietitian provides support to IWK Health Centre Wide Clinical Nutrition for collaboration, capacity building, caseload vacation coverage, as well as weekend/holiday standby and call back coverage is required.


Hours of Work:

Monday - Friday 7.5 hour shifts, evenings may be required.


Your Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree with major credits in nutrition or dietetics required, Master's Degree an asset.
  • Successful completion of a Dietetic Internship Program required.
  • Current license to practice with Nova Scotia College of Dietitians and Nutritionists (NSCDN), or eligible to obtain license, required.
  • Member of Dietitians of Canada preferred.
  • Previous related clinical nutrition experience required.
  • Previous experience with chronic pain and pelvic floor dysfunction preferred.
  • Ability to work as part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team as well as the ability to work independently.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation and communication (verbal & written) skills.
  • Excellent time management, organization and problemsolving skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding and commitment to patient centred care.
  • Competency in other languages an asset
