*Summary Of Duties

  • The Human Resources Manager holds a key position at Townsend Lumber, Breeze Dried & BreezeWood Floors. Reporting to the Vice President, Finance and Administration the Human Resources Manager develops, implements and administers all HR policies and programs in a multicompany organization to meet legislative and business requirements. As a member of the management team, the Human Resources Manager will contribute to the strategic direction and operational effectiveness of Townsend Lumber Inc. and the associated companies of The Townsend Penner Group. This role will execute assigned elements of Townsend Lumber's strategic plan, and will provide the HR expertise necessary to effectively manage and grow its operations.

Core Duties Under the direction of the Vice President, Finance and Administration:

  • Assess the effectiveness of existing policies and programs and recommend changes as necessary to ensure legislative compliance and support business strategy, vision and mission, and core values.
  • Develop, implement and administer approved HR policies and programs to effectively manage all aspects of the employment relationship including recruitment, hiring, training, attendance, performance, health and safety, training and development, career progression, and issue resolution.
  • Remain current with and ensure compliance with all applicable employment legislation.
  • Evaluate staffing levels and internal skill sets against emerging business needs; recommend hiring and professional development plans to ensure the efficient and effective resourcing of Townsend's operations.
  • Responsible to ensure the companies have adequate staffing levels to meet or exceed operations needs at all times
  • Administer employee benefits programs in accordance with plan terms and established guidelines.
  • Establish, monitor and enforce health and safety policies, programs and procedures that meet or exceed legislative requirements and internal standards
  • Develop, coach and manage the activities of the Health and Safety Coordinator
  • Evaluate current health and safety practices and recommend improvements as necessary
  • Provide guidance and support to Department Managers in interpreting and administering HR policies and programs.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to employees and supervisors with respect to career development, performance management and employee relations issues.
  • Maintain accurate employee records and ensure proper documentation of all employees.
  • Protect the confidentiality of all employee data in accordance with the Privacy Act and internal standards.
  • Execute assigned elements of the strategic plan as directed
  • Conduct external market compensation reviews and develop salary ranges and wage schedules that are externally competitive and internally equitable.
  • Develop and implement a robust performance assessment process to drive performance towards desired outcomes
  • Lead the team in promoting a positive work environment in which everyone is treated with dignity and respect

_Skills and Experience_

  • Postsecondary degree / diploma in business administration or management
  • Certified Human Resources Professional designation a strong asset
  • 5+ years experience at a management level in Human Resources
  • Certification in Health and Safety practices a strong asset
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office (Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint specifically)
