What we do and why we do it:

The People & Culture Team at The Alex supports leadership by developing processes and capacity to recruit, develop, and retain high performing individuals thereby supporting the delivery of innovative and accessible health, housing, and social solutions.


The Learning & Development Coordinator will lead the day-to-day coordination and administration of organization-wide training programs and evaluate for effective delivery.

In collaboration with Alex-wide Programs, they will assess current and future training opportunities that will strengthen the skills of our employees.


What you will do:


  • Maintain and update training database (My Impact); provide outcome statistics and reports as required
  • Create, review, and revise interactive and engaging elearning material
  • Identify, source, and coordinate relevant training opportunities; facilitate checkin/feedback conversations about trainings
  • Coordinate with staff about upcoming certification renewals
  • Responsible for technical and logístical elements of online training programs
  • Coordinate organizationwide training programs and evaluate for effective delivery, communicate training schedules and details to staff.
  • Communicate with Leads and Associate Directors to identify training needs.
  • Obtain and distribute required instructional material.
  • Review and report on potential new training opportunities for staff.
  • Create and maintain electronic staff training files; including creating profiles for new employees in My Impact.
  • Provide technical support for staff accessing My Impact.
  • Act as the first point of contact for vendors of training workshops and learning materials; screen and negotiate pricing and contracts as required.
  • Coordinate workshops for multiple teams.
  • Assist in the ongoing development and facilitation of orientation programs.
  • Submit and manage all Canada Alberta Job Grant Applications including finished course followup and document submission.
  • Upload items in the Document Library in My Impact for staff review as required.
  • Coordinate renewals of employee TraintheTrainer qualifications.
  • In partnership with the Volunteer Administrator, coordinate training opportunities for Volunteers.
  • Assist with various HR projects as required.
  • Assist with data collection and entry as directed.
  • Other related duties as required.

What you bring:


  • Diploma and/or training in Business, Human Resources or Adult Education or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 2 years similar experience preferred
  • Strong time management, prioritization skills, with high attention to detail
  • Selfdirected with a demonstrated ability to work with minimum supervision in a fastpaced, dynamic environment
  • A satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal record clearance is required
  • Proactive approach with high initiative
  • Able to communicate effectively with diverse people
  • Excellent organizational and team coordination abilities
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, set priorities and meet deadlines
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills including presentation and group facilitation
  • Proficiency using MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook) and the ability to learn new software
  • Previous experience with training software is an asset
  • Knowledge of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People (UNDRIP) and the Truth and Reconciliation Commissions (TRC) 94 Calls to Action is an asset
  • Willingness to work within antiracist and antioppressive frameworks and actively engage in ongoing learning about these frameworks.

Working Environment:


  • Main building nd Avenue SE, Calgary, AB)
  • 1 FTE (37.5 hours/week)
  • Standard hours of Work: 8:30am 4:30pm, Monday to Friday, some flexibility available
  • Continuous extended periods of sitting and/or standing and walking (sometimes up/down stairwells)
